Large Scale Central

CVRR OCS

Rooster, your railroad, your rules.

My chief Engineer, Smokey, doesn’t like them newfangled, unproven, cantankerous, internal combustion, diesel-lectric thangs. We are steam folks round these parts. But whatever you like, you run. (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

Just a tease. I’m waiting for the vent pipes and fuel lines to get attached to the tank. (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)Nice work Rooster

Me likes this, and purely because it’s Alco! Keep up the great work.

In your case, the engine would be outfitted with a 16-cylinder GEVO generating 6,000hp. Use of AC traction motors would make this the equivalent of four SD-40-2’s. Since one single engine was located in the leading hood, the trailing hood would be wide open for 1) 10kpsi Hydrogen tanks and fuel cells for HEP 2) A complete redesign of the fuel system to use the trailing carbody as a CNG tender while the main fueltank carried 4,000gallons of diesel and twin redundant mini HEP gensets. 3) many other possibilities

Ok…I’m listening with anticipation but I need pics ! ABBA (possibly) … A’s carry the the 3 to 4k of diesel and the mini HEP gensets… B’s carry the CNG …I’m semi lost but very interested!

POSSIBLY moving the dynamic braking and definitely adding a cooling fan or two

Nathan K5a’s (possibly)

Steam still rules.

There was " a rumor" about a massive wreck involving a D&H Alco and AMTK EMD ('s)…“Word on the street was”… Alco got shoved so far up EMD’s rear end King Arthur himself was unable to remove it that day and the day after and the day after that and then the third day and it carries on for a while !

Basically the King couldn’t remove it !

However it never happened with out pictures!

OH WAIT …here is a “picture” before it happened!

They’re some fancy looking du-dads you’re putting on the roof. Are we looking at two units being worked on?(http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

Very cool build Dave .

I’m as bad as Mike!

This thread is damn near a bloody year old!

Our orders are to hunt down and kill Roosterus !

But Captain!

Now 2 yrs old and we still have not found David Russell aka Roosterus. However I did get all my stuff out this weekend and started to play again. No pictures as Fred (Friar,Padre,Father) which ever nickname he chooses does not do pictures so perhaps we can write about progress.

Hehehe…Very Nice !

As much as I like it I believe it’s way too much locomotive

David, take note of the trucks. This design does not use the standard 4-axle trucks of the DD40X. This design was inspired after SO MANY people asked if UP 6944 was purchased by NS for power, I got sick of all the idiocy on the net, so to shut them up I drew this: http://jgallaway81.deviantart.com/art/Trainiax-net-Norfolk-Southern-DDA40X-No-6999-493144596 with the only mod being the addition of PTC arrays on top of the cab.

After that drawing, I realized that NS would NEVER allow that monster to run on their rails. Because of all the 6-axles, they have track greasers on the Allegheny assault to protect the curves. So I envisioned that the Juniata Shops designed up a span bolster to allow them to use twin Blomberg trucks on each end instead of the UP monstrosities.

Having seen your work, I am completely confident in your ability to have this thing done in time for ECLSTS’16

Don’t let us down Rooster!

OK JD if you are still around?

I’m pretty much thinking of giving up on the PA’s as I ain’t feeling it. Been spending too much time trying to “Feel It” however I’m not!

So I’m thinking I will shelf/sell the PA’s and really leaning towards a SDP70F for the OCS loco. Love the thoughts here !!

Thank you

Rooz

Played a bit this afternoon after Governor Brunt visited today. Not set on anything just yet with exception of a few things that are necessary like ditch lites, HEP cabling, Extra fan with internal channeling for air movement to the dynamic braking and radiators since the white shirts “toolbags” that write my check want to keep the shutter style radiator grilles (seriously??).

Heavy discussion on larger fuel and water cells are up for debate as well but the white shirts always win over the blue shirts. Nothing is set in stone other than the necessary items and making them work. “Such As” … Air lines , braking cylinders will need to be moved as well in order to make the HTSC trucks work. It’s not really scratchbuilding but modifying and as discussed before sometimes that is worse. The white shirts still ain’t figured out exhaust ducting yet but hey it’s a job!

What else could we think of? How about an SD70-E8? using a USA 70MAC core, build a covered wagon?

In any case, happy creating. Its the invention that gets my juices flowing.

The SD70 covered wagon is coming once the PA is figured out. I have more OCS “cars” to build next.
