As much as I like it I believe it’s way too much locomotive

David, take note of the trucks. This design does not use the standard 4-axle trucks of the DD40X. This design was inspired after SO MANY people asked if UP 6944 was purchased by NS for power, I got sick of all the idiocy on the net, so to shut them up I drew this: http://jgallaway81.deviantart.com/art/Trainiax-net-Norfolk-Southern-DDA40X-No-6999-493144596 with the only mod being the addition of PTC arrays on top of the cab.

After that drawing, I realized that NS would NEVER allow that monster to run on their rails. Because of all the 6-axles, they have track greasers on the Allegheny assault to protect the curves. So I envisioned that the Juniata Shops designed up a span bolster to allow them to use twin Blomberg trucks on each end instead of the UP monstrosities.

In your case, the engine would be outfitted with a 16-cylinder GEVO generating 6,000hp. Use of AC traction motors would make this the equivalent of four SD-40-2’s. Since one single engine was located in the leading hood, the trailing hood would be wide open for 1) 10kpsi Hydrogen tanks and fuel cells for HEP 2) A complete redesign of the fuel system to use the trailing carbody as a CNG tender while the main fueltank carried 4,000gallons of diesel and twin redundant mini HEP gensets. 3) many other possibilities

Having seen your work, I am completely confident in your ability to have this thing done in time for ECLSTS’16

Don’t let us down Rooster!

And just for the clarification, I wasn’t suggesting you needed two, it was just two different ideas for the paint scheme.

How a double ended BQ-something-7?

Or this streamlined hood unit/updated BL2 I found on a Toshiba brochure the other day?

Original Toshiba paperwork can be found here. There’s a bigger view of the concept but with some overlays on the second page.

David, if I may be so bold as to offer a suggestion?

Since you love those unique and wonderful items, and since the Cumberland Valley was LONG gone by the time HEP came around, why not go freelance? Imagine if you will, while demolishing either the Johnstown or Pittsburg steel mills, the demolish company finds that “Big Liz” wasn’t fully scrapped out, but is just sitting rusting away? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PRR_FF1

Outfitted with a modern solid state rectifier based system, her quad motors would be able to generate more than 7,000hp. I think there should be plenty of room in her carbody for a HEP control cabinet?

OK JD lets go back to this story.

Lets pretend instead of finding “Big Liz” they discovered some Alco PA’s …2 A and 2 B units in the West York area…(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

Oh pish tosh. Its JUST Alco P’s. They are a dime a dozen.

:-p

Upgrade should be plural Dave…(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

It doesn’t matter cause JD lost interest I suppose.

Ya kinda… unless you are gonna tell me its gonna have either pantagraphs or 80" drivers with a jackshaft and siderods?

That’s why the CVRR’s CEO decided he needed a few that he could modify and disassemble/cut up… slap a new power plant and trucks in it/on it then sell what is good usable stuff ! Dieseltectural salvage is big business these days!

He purchased LV’s old stock that would have been scrapped

The steam generators are already sold !!

Why can’t the CVRR use what is available to them like HTCR-II trucks? Is that illegal or just a dream in my mind? Because if it’s illegal then I’m all in!

This is getting real weird, real fast!(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-smile.gif)
