Beautiful metal work.
Agreeing with Jon, and the unfinished aluminum looks awesome.
How are you joining the aluminum bits? Epoxy?
Due to unforeseen circumstances I got some play time in today. Don’t happen often these days if at all SO I’ll take it.
I removed the mocked up end wall, scribed (best I could) and set it back into the car as it should be. Then added the 5/32 aluminum side caps to the acrylic with my favorite glue. Included both sides for Hollywood cause he always asks about the other side of the car.
Honestly, it’s kinda outta control so far while working with an out of square mass produced car.
However I’m enjoying myself and that’s all that matters!
Dome tops are never square, you can tell by the arch. Is the other end the same?
Rooster : puts Hollywood on ignore.
No, the other end is different however it is square buy the 3,4,5 method so I’m guessing that you had all the weight of the other cars you hoarded on the front of the car or is it the back ?

With your mods the car will forever go in reverse with no way of direct entry. Thus I wait patiently for it’s owner to realize his gaff and purchase a second unit. Then he can run them in tandem and solve his dilemma. You should message KZ and have him help you get this right.

There will be direct entry on both ends however like any obs car it will only have boarding and unboarding on one end. I believe this car will be named the “White Hill” as I’ve got a lot of memories from there!
Before you ask…
I have not decided on the Bridgeport, Shiremanstown, Mechanicsburg, Trindle Springs, New Kingston, Carlisle, Chambersburg yet.
However because I saw this I had to buy two cause that’s what the crew rides in.
Now I need a freakin 89’ Flat!
The model
The prototype
Oh, I know, I know…Back in the day you used to carry “Elephant Cars” on your OCS train and ride them when needed. However you were supposed to "ride them " into town not behind the boxcar. This is why modern OCS trains carry trucks on a flat so they can “drive them” into town when needed.
I did get a good bit done but not really any pics and hoping to get a lot more done if not finished with this car by the end of the year cause I gotta build an 89’ flat now!

I have 3 72’ers sitting in the stash. double decked and vehicle paths already built for ya

Damn Jon, That looks like the square end I made out of scrap left overs I had laying around. I think I got rid of it for Chicken feed. No offence Rooster
Nothing like walking out to my train shed first thing in the morning with a cup of hot coffee, fire up the propane heater and play around until the shop warms up a bit.
I decided I am sticking with the pure deco theme on this car. Ain’t really my cup up tea but I like it and totally respect it’s art and craftsmanship metal workings.
But me have COOKIE first before work. Then me and Grover put up 4"x4" aluminum box with 2" acrylic before boss Rooster think me do nothing but EAT COOKIES.
Decided to root through my junk box and use this nifty tail lamp side marker off a 2006 Volvo XC70. The tail lamp housing was smashed and the new tail lamp came with a new lamp. So I grabbed this a couple years ago. This is (replaceable circuit board that is still available) but I have never seen one fail.

And to be continued …
I remember the beautiful work with wood you did on the BL-2 build. This guy’s description of the car claims all the right methods, just less than museum quality execution for a museum piece price.
Very slick.
…
Problem is I just wasn’t feeling it. Bill mentioned that he would like to have seen interior on the Amtrak baggage car and why that is I have no idea even though it would have been cool.
However, Bill is correct in many aspects and after many hours of uncalled for Art Deco research and memory refresh I believe I’m going to actually do interior. The car is named White Hill for a reason and the crew needs a place to De Stress (Jersey Girl I know) .
I have decided on.
FULL FRONTAL or FULL RECTAL because it depends whether it’s running east or west . Hollywood north and south are 2 cars down cause I know your gonna ask. And yes I am keeping the lighting on the railing.
So with the blessing of Bill and the Vanderbuilts I’m going to carry on.
I’m gonna light this pig up like a massive fart over a campfire.
After morning chores Rocky and Rooster headed to “the shed” …
Raw materials at hand and once again making “junk” outta “junk” that’s been stacked up for years and it’s time to use it or toss it.
Very rough veneer from a local black walnut and a floor section from a heavyweight. I totally forgot about the brass tubing and even though it’s not the clean aluminum/stainless look it’s got the perfect shape!
Got the blanks cut ( Yes Hollywood ) there are 2 blanks cut with the grain and 2 blanks cut across the grain and I did that for a reason. Mainly so you don’t have to ask because most wouldn’t notice it anyway!
EDITED: For Bill because I know he is in Australia. You are welcome Bill.
that is very thoughtfull from you.
