Large Scale Central

Crown Willamette Paper Co. #3 tower skidder-build log

Had a little free time today so decided to get a little more done. Today I made a water tank using some 1 1/4" od pvc pipe

then I started the bracing for the roof over the boiler

and here is an overall shot of the whole assembly mounted on the frame and the water tank in place

Looks Good!
BTWā€¦If your gonna tease us with Grandmas cookies in the scene then you need to have enough to share with everyone!!!

Thanks David!
Donā€™t worry I ate a cookie for you guys

little more work started today. Got around to starting the steam cylinders, made from more pvc and styrene

Of course hehehe  Its starting to look like a skidder now. Decided to start on the drums so I could start planning a little more. here is a picture of them during construction. I used pvc pipe rings glued to sheet styrene and used styrene strip for the centers

heres some cut out and one put together

and here is a mockup of them on the frame

and an overall shot of it at this point

hope to get these mounted soon and then can start building around them. stay tunedā€¦

Aaron
Nice use of various materials.
How are you cutting your PVC rings?
Rick

Aaron,
I see a large quantity of ā€œClinton County Power Juiceā€ is being consumed. Careful, it causes the jitters.

It's not the juice that causes the jitters, it's what you mix with it.... :)

Merry Christmas Everyone!!! @rick, I am using a 7 1/4" miter saw, works good on wood, pvc, and larger styrene. however avoid acrylic and hard plastic as it will shatter it, donā€™t ask how i learned that hehehe

Just a drop or two  need something to get this crew going, it was this or a stick of dynamite hehehe

Aaron, youā€™ve got to stop moving the spools aroundā€¦ We wonā€™t know which order they really go inā€¦

Give that man a cigar  roof work has started

next I started on the drum mounts and rails. I decided to use some bachmann rail as it snaps right on to the styrene channel

here is a picture of it snaped on to the styrene channel

and here is one of the large drums setting in the mount that is currently being worked on

now on to finishing the other drum mounts and then back to the cylinders. stay tunedā€¦

Wouldnā€™t be easier to just buy the Bachmann skidder?

Aaron,
Thatā€™s really cool the way you got that Bachmann track to work. All your work looks real good.

It is looking really nice. I cant wait to see it completed.

when asked they said they werenā€™t sure how, but they did find this mark painted under one of the drums? hehehe
