Counting Down to Mik's Build Challenge 2016

58 Days to Mik’s Build Challenge 2016, Rule #1 still applies.

Start gathering the napkins, put on the thinking caps. Be prepared for what ever I’m about to throw your way.

I’ve been hard at work getting this years Challenge put together. Even I don’t think that we can top last years. WOW what we did last year, was so over the top from Mooses to Surfboards, Backwoods Critters, Rockets to Mobile Homes on rails.

If you think that you can outguess me, you can start stock piling all the stuff you think you will need, as always the $30 and 30 days rules will apply, and any thing that you have in hand as of Jan 1, doesn’t count against the total. So stock up if you must, but you will probably be waisting your monies if you think that you will get to use it for this years challenge. " Push the button Max!!!"

I do know that youse guys will again push it to new limits. I am planning to make a couple of changes to the parade over last years.

Woohoo!! Unfortunately I will probably be watching from the sidelines this year

but I look forward to seeing all the great builds that take place

If we don’t get washed downstream with El Nino I will be ready for the Challenge!

Hey Doug maybe that should be the theme… El Nino (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

OH YEAH!!! El Nino. If I went with that, some Texans and a few cajins in Orleans would put out a price on my head, after the flooding of the last few weeks. Hey. the SW is in a drought, If you SoCal guys want us to keep sending our water to ya, ya better get with the rain dances, and hope that El Nino is a big one this year. Have you seen the ring around Lake Powell, 40 ft of more water would still not fill it up.

I have to bail out even before the challenge starts… My wife is due to have a new baby during the challenge time. I think I’ll be just a bit busy entertaining the 2 year old, and helping out. (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-undecided.gif)

Can we call it El Polo Loco since we have to pass on El Nino??

I have warned the shop crew. They need to have some kind of work-space ready for the challenge. And I need to stock up on glue and band aids.

You need to re-think your priorities . . .(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

3/4 of a year late on that one eh?(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-surprised.gif)

So knowing That nothing I buy before the gun goes off counts toward the total I decided to buy a Hobby town franchise in preparation.

Now owning HOBBIE TOWN might help… But you will be so busy running it at a loss (-$) that you won’t have time to build anything… at least not for a while.

Well, if I want to live long enough to reach my next birthday my priority has to shift just a little… (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-tongue-out.gif)(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

Don’t over complicate this $30 buck is $30 bucks. But remember whatever was in inventory before the cannon sounds doesn’t count. And as Dave mentions I will be operating at a loss anyway so using up my inventory for a private project is no big deal. I am sure any reasonable bankruptcy judge will understand why my store went so deeply in the hole in its first couple of months of operation and will forgive my debt.

I’ve heard you can make a small fortune with a hobby store.

The only catch is you need to start with a big one…

John

John, I have seen one person be very successful at making money with a hobby shop, and I have seen several dismal failures. So a person can make a good living with a hobby shop, but the odds are against that.

One must remember that a hobby shop depends on DISPOSABLE INCOME to survive. I can’t speak for others, but my gubment has disposed of most of mine even before I get the opportunity to SEE it, much less spend it…

I’ll be in this year, as long as the challenge is simply stated! Since I’ve been cleaning up my garage on an unrelated series of projects, I found a lot of model RR items. Mostly n-gauge, but lots of bits of wood, plastic, copper and steel. Maybe I can make a still on a flatcar? I’ve got to be ready for the NGRC next summer. Our club, SVGRS, will have several open houses the week following the Convention and right before Summer Steam Up at McClellan (ex-AFB), CA.

Congratulations! I wish the best of health to all of you! Cheers!
