4 beers in one glass? 34oz? no wonder Australians are grumpy. If your beers only come in 8 ozs I’d be cranky also. A bottle or can of beer is 12 oz. A real glass of draft beer should be a pint (16oz anything less is a criminal offense punishable by death). Or is Australian math different?

Nah, we just don’t like our beer warm! In Queensland it makes sense getting to an un-airconditioned pub and ordering a 7 Oz beer, then annother, then another. However, Australia has decided what a standard drink is and most beer bottles say this bottle contains 1.2 standard beers.

You also have to realise, until relatively recently (I think the 1990’s) any Australian brewed beer could only be sold in the state it was brewed. Northern Territorians drink 15 litres of pure alcohol each year - three times the global average. But Devon, there is a bit of truth to the grumpiness, and when you travel to pubs out of state this can occur, because we call different sizes by the same name. Read this if you want to know why we are grumpy. This is a short article by Aussies, for Aussies A deep dive into Aussie beer sizes

Ironically, when discussing American Brews (before your microbrew revolution), the were affectionally known to be like making love in a canoe ( f#@&-ing close to water)

Fair enough statement about what passes for an American beer. I don’t like what most people drink for beer around here. Boycott Bud Light you say . . .Um Okay I have been boycotting it since age 12 when I had my first beer. I whole heartedly agree that the microbrew revolution was one of the best things to happen to the U.S.A. Probably more significant than the First Revolution. I much prefer the dark beers like porters and stouts or a good darker ale like a nut brown.

As for beer sizes isn’t that interesting how culturally different something like a glass of beer can be. Would not have dawned on me. But the only Australian beer that I know I have drank is Fosters and it comes in a giant can lol. But it does make sense that in a hot arid climate multiple smaller beers would make sense. And that insures your beer won’t get warm while to take a break to wrestle a stuffed Croc.

It’s like shrimp on the barbie, made for Americans. Ask here about Fosters and they’ll tell you, “Put it back in the horse, mate!”

Sigh… oh Devon.

I can’t help it if EVERYTHING I know about Australia comes from a couple Paul Hogan movies.

Oh that isn’t true. I do happen to know a few of you guys know how to sail a boat.

Don’t get me started on 3.2 beer. At least its not sold around here…

Reminds me I have not done a “Yard of Beer” at Market Cross pub in a stones age!

For a country is about 280 km (about 175 miles) long and about 145 km (about 90 miles ) wide, you have to tip your hat to the Belgians as they have at last count, 408 breweries.

We have a Belgian Beer bar here and beer can be 18%. Monasteries still brew beer (apparently because it was safer to drink than water in the dark ages) and they serve it in chalices.

It used to be. When I went to college in Boston (1970’s) the clubs served 3.2 beer to anyone with a college ID. You had to be 21 to get the “hard” stuff. You got just as drunk, just took about 2 or 3 gallons, which if you were unlucky, came out the wrong end all night.

Oh, Devon.

Can I just say…

We NEVER SAY this…

If you’re holding a knife, someone will pull out a bigger knife and say “That’s not a knife. This is a knife.”

Unless…
Of course…

…provoked.

This is a knife. :cowboy_hat_face:

Hey my cream puffs don’t make the top 5! I’m never talking to you again. Or giving you creampuffs. :joy::stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye::roll_eyes:

Craig i love creme puffs. And yours are the best ever. But what can I say? I like to many things. But I’d never ever ever turn down your moms cardamom chicken and your creme puffs. That would be worth swimming the sound for.

Slowly catching up on this thread.

Have you had yourself some Cold Smoke from Kettle Falls Brewing in Missoula? My sister says it’s at Yokes and it was just at Costco in Spokane on sale. She bought be a few cases (as in like a dozen)as it’s my favorite.

Cardamon chicken is pretty good I’d say so myself. The boys all like it too so it’s good meal for when Momma is gone as she can’t stand the smell of it.

Now I’m wanting both those things for dinner and dessert now!

Never had the beer I’ll seek it out

Pete, you think that’s cool, I was about to say the same thing about Susanville! I have a friend who not only knows the location of Susanville, is related to Susan of Susanville, and is big into G Scale.

Keep those friendships alive.
If you are into the Olympics, 2032 will be a good year to visit your friend in “BrisVegas”! You can fly direct from LA.
I had to google Teal Point, Victoria. It appears to be an excellent reason to take a 4 hour regional Victorian train trip and get your friend to pick you up in Kerang.

You guys clearly haven’t had profiteroles. Wait how can I say that? I haven’t had Craig’s cream puffs yet.
