Large Scale Central

Construction on The Sunny View Line

The greening of the RR continues. Scale “sod” has been installed on the banks of the “high line”. It’s hard to tell from the photo, but the high line is elevated about a foot. The moss is a lttle brown now. This is dirt from being stacked in the wheel barrow. The first rain should wash it away. Ralph

just an fyi on MEK. As a science teacher and museum exhibit designer, I used to use MEK all the time with plastics. In the Museum world, we used to add plastic shavings to it so as to thicken the consistency. Then one day, an environmental engineer entered the picture and banned us from using it…carcinogenic. It has been difficult to find since. My son uses it in restoring old computers and buys it online…

No major construction to report on. The outside loop is waiting for the grade to be raised in “town”. Progress on raising the grade continues slowly, as I have an aversion to hauling dirt in a wheelbarrow  I’ll do 2 or 3 loads, then find something else to do  My wife surprised me the other day and bought me some Golden Scotch Moss. I have a future “home site” that was over run with weeds. So I dug it up and planted the moss.

Aristocraft had a structure sale a few weeks ago, so I picked up the Church. It didn’t take very long to get dirty  I’m working on getting a pretty decent size outbuilding for a workshop and train storage. As I can’t keep the structures clean, and the sun is taking it’s toll, maybe soon I can store them indoors.

Also planted a couple more Dwarf Alberta Spruces and replenished some of the road. Ralph

Nice to see you finding time to work on the pike Ralph. Bobs had practice this month, maybe he’ll stop by and give you a hand hauling dirt.

Looking good Ralph. I should be out workin’ on mine, but I’m sittin’ here at the computer.

Did your wife buy you moss because it grows slow and she was throwing a hint that you are working slow?

I wish moss grew here on the desert!

I'm not even working slow, I'm pidlin' and avoiding work all together :) I still have 2 more Dwarf Spruces to plant and some ground cover. But it will probably be later in the week before I get to it.

The good news is I finally got a handle on the weeds. I hope I can stay ahead of them
Ralph

Our weeds are little but there’s a million of them.

I can’t stand weeds…I can be mowing the around the garden railroad and stop to pull all the weeds.

I’d be happy to send you a few (a lot?).

Ralph looking good. If you kept your RR small like mine it would be so much easier to weed a maintain  When are the trains going to run? I had my running most of the day today.

Shawn, I didn’t run a train today, but did ride one  Ralph

Them is some sharp curves for a 1:1. Prototype for everything dept

How do you weed a maintain?

With a mainpuller?

That counts, Ralph, that definitely counts!

Oh, Ralph: I ran several trains today, mostly switching, but some mainline running too. My trains were a bit smaller than yours, though.

with a dead rooster.

It was time to do a little work on the Sunny View Line and the Pacolet River Valley Railroad as well. It was decided to remove the small inner loop the SV depot was on. My original idea was to keep this inner loop track powered so I’d have somewhere to run the non battery/RC equipment. However, it hasn’t happened. So I decided to remove the loop and open up the interior a bit. Here it is with the inner loop removed. The pad for the SV depot still needs to be moved at this point. The straight was lengthened a foot by moving the “S” closer to the switch.

The pad was moved and checked for clearance. Notice all the paint that has flaked off the Aristo Church roof. It’s less than a year old, so I’m not too happy about it. My spray bomb paint jobs hold up much longer

I also added the switches for a caboose track to the PVRR yard. I need to buy some used brass track to complete the caboose track and extend the sidings. Although my mainlines are aluminum, the entire yard complex is brass. I’d like to keep it that way. The yard tracks are much more likely to get stepped on.

Unfortunately, I used up the last of my 16 tons of gravel on the caboose track. Re-ballasting the rest of the yard, as well as the mainlines, will have to wait until I can get another 8 tons of gravel delivered. If your RR is on the ground, you can’t have too much gravel  I’ve had as much as 12 inches of rain, and never have any standing water or washouts. Ralph I really don’t like these smaller pictures :frowning:
