Large Scale Central

Conquering the 4% on the C.V.S.Ry.

After running a test train around the railroad, trimming back some plants and general clean-up, I ran a double-headed freight train with a mid train (diesel) helper up the grade and around the wye. This train was more than twice the length of what I can turn on the wye. Once the top of the grade was reached, #8 was cut off and run around the wye light. Next #345 brought half the train through the wye and tied on to #8 pulling clear together and waiting for the rest of the train. M-10 brought the second section around the wye and then tied on to the first section for the trip down the hill.

All of that breaking, re-making, breaking and re-making again of the consist was really easy using RailPros Link and Unlink commands. Building the consist is a matter of simply selecting the locos in the correct order after pressing the Link button. Breaking it up is a single Unlink button. Simple and fast. Speed matching of the locomotives is not needed since the modules talk to each other balancing the load perfectly.

I spent more time running thetrain than I did editing this video. Not my best work but it shows off the system quite nicely…

Jon;

Very nice, I really enjoyed the video. I guess they can still be found here and there, so thought I should mention that the Hartland Big John locomotives are also champs on heavy grades.

Best Wishes, David Meashey

Excellent !

Shorty sounds like a HEP car ?

Jon, Nice video but more important to me is your review on the RailPro’s easy to use consisting. Simple explanation of the functions. I can understand why it was an easy choice for you(https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

Yep, but you already knew that. I think this is now Version 3. Version 4 is already in my head, simply a speaker car to enhance to on-board battery r/c in the loco. I’d like to have the flexibility of switching without the trail car, but don’t want to loose what it adds to the sound

Thanks. Maybe I’ll put together a full review once I have a little more experience. There are things I love, things I wish they had, and some things I don’t like. Overall, I think I’m sold and constsiting really had a huge part of that decision.

Jon,

I really enjoyed your video. Nice job. That section of your pike looks very realistic! (https://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

Thanks Joe. I keep working on angles and view blocks. I didn’t bother to drag out the tripod for this one, so the angles here what I could get placing the camera on existing objects. Wish I had a better video camera, but this one has to do!

I need about $2000. of plants on mine to come close to your layout!! being in the desert doesn’t help either. Very nice looking video Jon.

Thank you Pete. I don’t think I have more than $500 invested in plantings over the nearly 20 years of the layout’s lifetime. Quite a few of the small conifers are volunteers that sprout every year from a line of Hemlocks at a neighbor’s house. They get ugly at about 20" so I just cut them down. A handful of Seedums were given to me by a neighbor over 10 years ago. They are nearly impossible to kill and every cutting will root. The have spread (with help) all over the railroad and beyond. There is also a lot of Creeping Jenny that was purchased in a small pot and has spread a lot, also with some help.
