Please use a real name while posting, so others can address you properly. Thank you in advance…

well since everyone calls me the scoob you can too

I can’t see your pics. Unless you are using finescale wheel flanges on all your equiptment you may have a problem getting your wheels to ride rail that small. That’s why code 215 is usually the smallest you find.

when i first got the track about 15 years ago it was all gauge 1 and i sent the summer removing old screws and re spiking & re gauging a 40ft loop no all i got of it is 6ft when i went of to school mom&dad moved and burnt all my tack and ties all i got left is what was on a shelf in my apartment. All my Bachman equipment runs fine on it although i wouldn’t want to go any smaller

Sounds close to Märklin Gauge1 rail; give or take a little for measuring errors and such matters.

i can find code 180 but i can only find it in the UK

"Code" specifies the height of the rail in thousandths of an inch, so 0.188" tall rail is code 188. The 0.216" rail would be named "code 216". It probably is actually meant to be code 215, as that is a nominal standard size available from LS suppliers.

I have never personally seen code 188 rail, but I do have some code 196 and code 200 rail. The code 200 rail is currently available from PECO. There are several U.S. distributors / sales outlets. Although available as rail, mine is in the form of PECO SM32 track with plastic ties. PECO designed it to represent 24" gauge in 16mm / foot (1:19) scale, which is fairly common in the UK. On my 1:20 railroad, it is 25 5/8" gauge construction company track.

The next smaller commonly available rail is code 148, the most common 0-scale rail. That would represent something around 25# rail in 1:20. That small rail was typically only used for the very lightest (usually hand or horse powered) rail applications.

There was a Swiss company, who’s name I can’t remember, that was the source for my code 196 rail. That was many years ago and I can’t find them now. Sorry I can’t provide better help there.

It was common for railroads to change rail size in expansions and over time, so perhaps the code 200 would work for your additions. It would represent 55# rail in 1:20, where your code 188 is ~50# rail in 1:20. Pretty close.

You can see charts of rail sizes at Rick Blanchard’s Da Trains Site (link).

Hope this helps!

heres the link for code 180 http://www.cliffbarker.me.uk/ ,but i just talked to micro Engineering 636-349-1112 i can get code 205 for 78.25us for a bulk pack

BTW what scale are you modeling? 1:20.3?

yes 1:20.3 as closely as i can.I’ll try to get pics up tomorrow

That Cliff Barker rail is bullhead and unsuited to spiking. the real bull head is used with chairs, so you would need to buy the Cliff Barker sleepers to suit the rail.
Dave

In addition what Dave Whellum wrote, the Cliff Barker track system (rail + tie strips + joiners) is designed to represent British prototype practices. If you are modeling U.S. or North American prototypes, the look of the finished track will be “foreign,” and detract from your railroad, regardless of the rail height.

Too bad the Cliff Barker stuff isn’t available in U.S. practice outline, as it looks really good.

Happy RRing,

Jerry

my track should be here next friday got a bundle of ME code 205 coming in can’t wait

Nice to meet another hand spiker in the bunch…what are you using for ties and spikes?

i cut my own ties and use HO ME spikes they are a little shorter then the G-scale spikes and easyer to put in the tie

here’s some pics i hope lol

Scooby, your stuff looks really good, especially the scale brick wall in the last photo. :stuck_out_tongue:
