CN Spadina coal tower, my way

Those look great Bob and so simple. I bet you have to nail them down when they are on the RR else they will blow away. You should write up a little “how to” and send it over to Garden Railways magazine.

Nice looking coaling tower. You made it look simple enough to build. Later RJD

Really hard to see white styrene on white pvc, but Ive started the brick bits.

Looks good Bob.

Neat. So, what did you use to attach the brick?

MEK in one of those needle squeeze bottles… Its thin, allows more positioning time before it sets, unlike pvc cement, and flows nicely.

Nice, Bob.
Hope you didn’t make it too big to get out the door!

Finished up the brick work today. The rear of the tower has some styling on the brick to break up the big wall.

So I did something similar on mine.

So, I’m confused.

I thought the brick was more indented into the wall…or is there more to come?

Anyway, the brick does look neat.

Looking good Bob. Will be a nice addition to the layout.

Not cornfused. I’ll be overlaying .040 strips next to the brick sheet, and filling seams. It was either that, or router out all the bricked areas.

That’s what I figured, Bob… Tower is looking real nice…

Thanks guys. Its one of the most complicated scratchbuilds Ive done. Lots of “Now, how does THIS work?” when Im plotting out some part of it.

I cant wait to get to the brasswork for the details. That should be interesting.

Now that makes sense. Is .040 thick enough?

Yep. 040 is JUST a bit thicker than the brick sheet, so it looks right.

Here’s lunchtime’s progress. In order to successfully glue the pipe to the top building, I’d like a thicker edge than the 3/16" thickness, so I built it up with three 1/8" thick pieces.

Once smoothed, that should be a sufficient gluing surface.

Detail is looking good

That should be more than enough! I’ve had good luck with E-6000 holding down my 5/64" thick pipe (3" OD). I like to use the black stuff…

This morning I squared the hoist building to the tower, and glued everything together. That should be all the progress until everything dries.

Looks great…
