Class A Climax

I'm kinda sad I didnt keep my Class A building log pic online, but your doing A-OK Shawn

Mik, Ozark might have ment that lever to be the Hi-to-Low gearing shift lever, though it should be re-oriented 90degrees to run parallel to the driveshaft.

The Ozark engine comes as kit. One could build it however they desired.

Hi Timmy, in my Climax book there is a litho of a cross section showing how the gear lever moved the hi-low gearing, the Ozark kit is tight on interior space, I surmised that was why the kit was built that way, Ozark would have had to make their kit an 1-1/2" longer to fit it in that way. In the end it doesnt really matter which way its oriented, as long as your happy with it, thats all that counts. I also think your model came out terrific!

God forbid I come down on anyone for non-prototypical building standards, I’m the worst offender of all you lot

I started working on the engine. The main part is being made with styrene. So far its coming along nice. Sorry no pictures. While making the engine I started to think about what figures I want to use for the engine. I have all the woodland scenic engineeres in my other locos so I want to do something different. Anyone have any ideas were I can get some nice figures that would look good with the climax and fit into my theme? I am even considering making my own but not sure how that will turn out since I cant even draw a stick figure. Any ideas where I can get figures or anyone selling figures they made from molds?

Try SLM, they have a good selection of very realistic figures, including some that are suitable for early logging outfits:

Without a doubt, I’d go with Rob Bennets’ Busy Bodies…If I ever get to the point of needing some “character” for my trains, he gets the call!

I got the bulk of the steam engine complete or to the point I think it is presentable. LOL The only problem I ran into was the size. I made it it a little to long. Now I have very little space between the engine and the firebox. The question is do I leave it, do I shorten the boiler by a halg inch or so, or do I skip the engine and enclose that area so it wont even be noticable?

I would think that the engine would a vrey important part and should be visible… Could you just move the front boiler support back some on the boiler and let the boiler overhang the frontend a little bit??? Move the support back under the smoke stack, just in front of the row of rivets behind the smoke stack…

I did try that and the problem was I want to add wood sides to the front. After looking at the pictures I took the saw to the boiler and took about 1/2-3/4 inch off. It only took a few seconds to do. Now I just have to wait for the glue to dry and I will be back in business.

Dont worry it will be done well before that. The boiler just came out of the paint shop. Next I want to start building the sides and the roof.

Ha ha. Im getting there. Started working on the sides and weathering the boiler and water tank. Should have pictures tomorrow. I got tied up putting the x-mas tree up and outside decerations, started putting a floor down in the house. Then of course work put me behind. Then I spent a few hours in the ER with my wife (she had a bad allergic reaction) I should be able to resume tomorrow. Oh wait I still have to finish putting the floor down. Grrrrrrrrrr.

just yankin’ the chain…
