Christmas LOOT.. What you get?

I got a Terry’s Chocolate orange, and an electric bubble-gun with flashing lights.

The only train-related items were three Christmas cars with train motifs - thanks to friends Marvin, Horace and Rick.

Santa Claus failed to come up with the much-needed passenger cars for my Royal Hudson - next year, maybe…

High End, Made in the USA, 116 pieces of the sexiest pro grade drill bits I could dream of. Wish I would of had them 25 years ago, Now I’m not sure that I’ll get 25 years of use.

AND

If you don’t recognize these, well then just nod your head and politely smile, and act impressed. Sets of pro grade, Made in the USA, taps, all the smaller sizes in taper, plug and bottom. I’ve been so tired of not having what I need, or that it was such a cheepy that it doesn’t last.

And somewhere between NY and NM a set of reamers, Of course Made in the USA!

My office manager got me a calendar of Right and Proper British Trains. No Headlights!

Look over there! points. (While everybody looks, Bob runs off with the cool tools)

I got a t-shirt with “this is not a drill” printed it, next to a picture of a hammer. Only rr related items were a bunch of those metal buildings from CVS from another thread. SWMBO saw them in the store and thought theyd be neat on the rr. Got each other a bunch of games, too.

3 years ago I asked for a USB turntable, I kept my old vinyl…have RR recordings, of course it was forgotten…

I saw one on sale this year. I bought it.

Now we just have MIK’s challenge to look forward to, oh and New Years.

Best to All

John

Nothing train related but I did get a Go Pro hero 3 for all my outdoor adventures. I think it will work great for train videos as well. Its super small and waterproof.

My little guy finally got a Diesel. He got an Arsito FA-1 Erie and Lackawana. Now I haveto get some matching cars for him. He carries the thing everywhere.

My gift to myself was the USAT GP38 that I just purchased along with the AirWire system to make it my first battery powered locomotive.
The wife gave me a giant 6-draw rolling tool chest from Craftsman, this way all my tools will be in one place instead of scattered all about between smaller tool boxes and cardboard boxes…
Not sure if it will help my wife in returning the tools she borrows to there proper place or not!!
We shall see

If she is ANYTHING like my wife, it won’t help!

I got signed up for “Railroading 101” at the Wilmington & Western Railroad in Marshallton, Delaware. It is six weeks on Thursday nights in January and February. Then in March we graduate to the Yard to run a SW-1.

It will cover history, ROW, track design and maintenance, Yard Operations Train Orders and Dispatching, Signals, FRA Rules, Steam and Diesel locomotives, train braking and operation. Then visit to the roundhouse to see the steam loco restoration.

Hoping for bearable weather as it is a 2 hour drive. Will stay over on Thursday nights.

No hobby stuff for me this year, not even from myself. Money’s a bit tight and there’s really not much I need right now anyway. But we got a lot of tasty treats from family and friends – cookies, banana bread, etc. The best gift is that Cris is doing much, much better now, after going through a bipolar episode and some other health issues the past few weeks.

John, I want to get one of those USB turntables someday! I have a huge record collection and haven’t been able to enjoy it since my stereo died a few years ago.

Ray, might be your chance during after Christmas sales. Don’t know if you have Kohl’s, but that’s where I bought mine. It will play records, cassette tapes, CD’s or AM/FM radio. You can copy from records to CD, cassette to CD.

Here’s the book: innovative technology

I didn’t get anything train related.

But…

I did get my Christmas Wish,

for my Older Brother who is in Hospice Care to survive through Christmas.

Dave

Yea, I heard of cows.

My lovely bride got me a superstition to Steam in the Garden. I asked if she understood what the magazine was about. Trains in the garden, right, she says? Ummmm, says I. So I proceed to 'splain. She seems interested, so I set the hook with some of the fine videos shown here.

Wouldn’t it be nice if we had a live steamer, says I? starting to reel her in.

Yeah, that would be great, says herself. I get out the net to land her.

But, says she, you have to sell some stuff to pay for it.

Aaaarrrrrgggghhhhhh! She slipped the hook, hulling me between wind and water.

I should be able to find a Bachmann flat car that is excess to my needs. That counts as “some,” right?

Sounds like excessive excess Steve

Steve, how much do you want for that flatcar?

Best wishes to you and your family, Dave.

I got a game called “Ticket to Ride,” in which you build railroad empires across the country. Pretty fun game; probably a bit more cut-throat with 5 people playing rather than just the three that played it last night. (I lost.) Beyond that, nothing directly train-related, though a new set of screwdrivers for the workshop and a tool tote to carry stuff around the back yard.

Later,

K

Kevin - Did you ever play Rail Barron, by Avalon Hill. Similar concept, 30 years ago. More players = more fun, but can it be cut throat.

Me too, I bought the stuff that wasn’t on the hit parade…

My truck stereo died and CD/Cassette players are history… my new one plays CDs and media files.

I got a cheapo turntable w/USB, no other accessories for $50 on sale at Guitar Center, says it lists for $150, but I think $50 is right… portable with pitch control.

Winter came today, the birdbath water froze last nite!
