Chris' 2026 Mik Challenge Steampunk Whatnot

I prime everything with standard spray primer first. Then any acrylic will adhere just fine.

Why does that look so familiar?

Todd, that was my original inspiration! And I was planning on using one, but I couldn’t find one the right size.

Well if you lived in certain County’s of PA you might have trouble finding one at all!

I’m calling this one done. What a job it’s been. But I’m pretty happy with how it turned out. I may fiddle a little bit more with it if I have time, but probably not. It’s been a great challenge for me!

Truly amazing Chris! Your vision and imagination make for incredible contraptions.

Redirecting.... For those on Facebook, a short video of the Jabberwock in action.

Inspired by Vic’s continuing to build through this last week of the challenge, I’ve decided to do a two car consist for the Jabberwock. I’m using only existing parts and still shooting for the zero expense.

Wow that thing is incredible! I was thinking it looked great in black but then you upped it with the copper. It’s the stuff of nightmares. Very steampunk.
It reminds me of something that we might have seen in the “Wild Wild West” movie.

Stunningly detailed, hyper imaginative, super cool!!

Truly awesome work Chris. I love it!

Chris;

After another look, I’m thinking it would be the perfect locomotive for a train ride through Jurassic Park or Jurassic World! Those claws on the front would be handy for grabbing (or impaling) stray dinos.

Just saying, David Meashey

I love Chris’s “cow catchers”! They go way beyond the mere thought of bumping the cow off the tracks. For starters, they literally catch the cow. Then either hold onto it for later use, or immediately begin its processing into burger. :grin:

[edit] Or, maybe the catchers are lifting the poor cow out of harm’s way, and doing something like this:

Cliff;

Odd little piece of trivia. Those funny looking apparatuses on the lower front of trolley cars were actually “people catchers.” If a hapless pedestrian fell in front of the trolley, the front lattice would trip a shelf to deploy and catch the pedestrian. I’m sure there were still bad injuries, but not as severe as having some body part cut off by a flanged wheel! :open_mouth:

Regards, David Meashey

The Steampunk cars are coming along. The large pieces are from a pair of Roomba’s that gave up the ghost. Of course, I dismantled them and saved what I could.I should be able to finish in time…I hope.

Chris;

Only you could discover that the innards of a failed appliance would look like something from Jules Vern’s version of science fiction’

Finishing up the two cars for the consist and thinking there’s enough time left for a Steampunk Bobber Caboose!

OK! I’m calling this one done! Two additional cars plus a bobber caboose. What a fun and genuine challenge this has been for me. My thanks to Vic for getting me involved in the first place.
