A momentous day in Rogue County! Dr. Crankensteam’s Manufactory is partnering with Ramshackle, Fleeceham, and Dhumppe Locomotive works in an attempt to create an entire new form of locomotive!
I have absolutely no idea what I’m going to build at this point, so I’m just gathering “stuff” and I’m going to start building! I have SO much junk that I suspect I won’t have to spend a penny on this one. I have an old Lionel 0-4-0 chassis that I’ll be using. I’ve never worked with one of these before so I have no idea how dependable they are. Here’s hoping it lasts through the build!
Looking forward to seeing this one.
Me too!
Mr. Walas builds the coolest couldashouldawouldhavebeen stuff.

Don, I tried emailing you a way back, but I had an invalid email address for you?? Can you email me?
Certainly Chris,
I will do so post haste.

It begins! The team in Rogue County has come up with a working chassis… I think. This is the cut down motor block from the old Lionel 0-4-0. I added an aluminum frame to attach front and rear trucks. I had to double hinge the connections to get it to run through my R1. S curves, but it works! So much for the easy part. Now to try and figure out what this is??
till now? - i’m more or less sure, that you’l build a 4-4-4 …
and with the big hump in the middle it might become a camelback.
Well, I’m creating quite a mess for myself on this one. An LGB Santa has volunteered to be the test driver for the new loco, but he had to lose some weight to fit through the entry hatch. I couldn’t find anything in my vast pile of “stuff” that worked for the cab so I drew one up in TinkerCAD and printed it. Fortunately, the filament I used was a gift, so still not a penny spent so far. I also have a ton of 3D printed bits to use. Just need to figure out what I’m building!
Poor Santa!! Looking at the “Bubble cab”?? I think you are the winner ! That thing is too cool.
The bubble cab is COOL.
Boy, that’s a rough diet plan, quick results though.
I’ve heard of an underground railroad, are you building for an underwater railroad?
Jules would be proud, Chris, carry on!!
Absolutely amazing cab Sir Chris! I would expect nothing less from a bashmaster such as yourself. Keep up the fantastic work,
DG
Works proceeds apace on the Whatnot. The bubble cab is getting painted and getting an interior. The main “boiler” section is coming along nicely. I’m attempting oscillating cylinders on this one, mostly because I’ve always wanted to try them. Not sure it’s going to work yet, but I’m hopeful. So much to do on this!!! But I’m enjoying it. I’ve had a few abandoned attempts so far on parts, but I think I’m going to be able to pull this one together in time… I hope!
Fantastic work Chris!
Have fun,
DG
This build is FUNky. It’s looking good.
The oscillating cylinders are very interesting. I hope you can get them working.
Poor Santa! After losing all that weight, it turns out he was too tall for the bubble cab. So, a quick polyclay replacement has been hired. Wiring in the cab is done and the cab is sealed up. Still lots of trim and such to do on it, but it’s feeling like a cohesive unit at this point. The main boiler section has been almost entirely “Steampunked”, so not so much more to do on it. I did get the oscillating cylinders working, so that’s another step forward. I stole a sequencing LED rig from a cheap space gun toy to add on the rear truck, so that should be fun. It’s starting to come together, but there’s still SO much to do and time is running out.
I detect a familiarity is that figures face and your recent selfies
Amazing piece of work Chris!
