That sounds great, but looks like it uses a lot of steam each time.
Wow that does sound great. No doubt the best sounding one yet.
Mr Campbell builds scratch-built, live steam, coal-fired large-scale Beyer-Garretts for fun [around forty so far, I think], among many others. Imagine the AccuCraft Garratt, but coal-fired. I’m sure he has taken into account the required volume of steam involved in an occasional toot.
Bob Weltyk also makes one, but I’ve only heard it on a Royal Hudson [not mine, sadly] and if you watch it on Youtube, it seems to be a prodigious boiler-emptier. Of course, it’s not, so it’s not anything I let worry me unduly. Both whistles are out of my league, expense-wise, so it’s moot how much steam they use AFAIAC, just nice to hear.

It sounds great. But…
I know it is a matter of size and also preference. I’ve always been a fan of the deep throated sound of the whistle. Unfortunately, I know that in our models it is a matter of size. You are running full scale steam through a small opening and that creates a high pitched sound.
I would love it if someone figured out a way to modify the resonance to create that deep throated sound of the big guys.

Jake,
The Weltyk whistle, which I think is based on the one Larry Bangham invented, uses a “resonance chamber” instead of a pipe. This lowers the tone and makes it more like the original. Do a google for “larry bangham whistle”
Mr Campbell’s version is pretty good.
I’ll be sure to tell him next time we meet up at the UK 16mm Garratt meet-up.

Thanks pete, that is what I was thinking of. Now I just need that locomotive to put it on…
Buy the whistle first, then that gives you a goal to aim for…

I have heard that Jason Kovac of “The Train Department” is considering marketing Larry Bangham design whistles. Anybody know about this? I would love to have a source here in the USA.
Ha ha, good idea Tac. I would probably drive the missus crazy by me tooting it all day…

Good, I see that Bob was able to figure it out. Not bad for a first post. Welcome to the crazy house, Bob!
Well, if Bob won’t blow his own whistle (snicker), I will. http://www.weltykswhistles.com/

Welcome aboard!
Thanks for showing your work. Here, it will be appreciated and admired.
Much gooderer, thanks, Steve!
Add my welcome there, Bob, good to see you here on THIS site. Now, if I can ever hear what the three-cylinder Shay whistle sounds like, we might do some business here…
Best to all
