Challenge Build 2013

@Doug We’ll see how far I get before the deadline. It looks like I might have to go to Las Vegas the 24th of this month for corporate training for almost a week…

That sounds like my schedule. I will be in Quartzsite and have a meeting there on the 24th. And it’s been too cold here to get anything done!

Got my kit in the mail today. Not sure how far I’ll get by the end of the month, but the kit is great!

The draftsman shared the day with the framing crew, but still got the right side wall built.

The kitchen window above the sink.

The Library windows and the 2nd floor support beam over the porch.

Got a little more drafting time, and drew up the prints for the rear wall.

Next up rear wall framing.

Major Milestone today… 1st floor framing complete… The crew was promised a day off if they got it done today, along with a couple of mason jars of Willies finest White Lightning… they kicked butt and nailed like a mad man.

1st floor is not final yet… have a few more details and then onto the 2nd floor.

Very nice. Your workers deserve their break with the mason jars.

Tom

Fired up the lumber mill today. I used up all but 8 of the studs that I cut the first time around.

Now to rip them down to studs, and floor joists for the second floor.

Now who designed this building? :frowning:

Those must be some hi tech beams you’ve got there Dave!

Does the term “Sky Hook” come to mind?

YEAP! Sky Hook Cranes… ran them for a few years in the sign industry…

That or a basketball team!

Does anyone know if 3/8 ths pins will work in the Harbor Freight pin nailer and what brands will wook if they do?

Pretty sure in the last couple of days on another of these challenge threads, Joe Zullo said they’d work just fine, Doug.

Doug,

Yes that was I who posted that. I used Grex 3/8 23gauge pin nails for part of my Dave Taylor gondola build. Set the adjustment for 1/2 and use about 50 psi. It worked great.

Thanks Joe. That’s great!

Framing crew got a start.. ....My decision to put blocking in between the studs, may have been not such a good idea. They are turning out to be very time consuming.......
Too bad 'coz the blocking definitely adds a lot to it, IMO.

Progress… Framing crew got the first floor framing mostly done. Nailed down to the base and the top sill plate framed.

Added a touch of detail ( a lot more to come)

Ready to tackle the second floor joists. Worked a 51 1/2 hr week… It sure gets in the way of having fun.

That framing is a work of art.

Framing was always my favorite in 1:1!

Now you need to run some wiring thur out the building! or some water lines…

The elect guys say that they won’t touch the place until the framing is completely done, and Inspector Sam signs off on it. I think there is Mason jar hiding in the woodwork somewhere.

There was a Mason jar at ECLSTS a couple of years ago. Unfortunately, or fortunately, depending on one's point of view, the manufacturer retired ;) Ralph
