Large Scale Central

Challenge Build 2013

Sorry but as a building inspector, I need to see the Engineer approved structural calculations to ensure your using the proper hold downs, plus those diagonal floorboards violate the floor diaphragm requirements, replace with 5/8" minimum plywood, I will also need to see your nailing schedule for the plywood shearwalls and roof diaphragm. Also have you submitted your Title 24 energy calculations to the building dept? BTW what where are your documents related to Green recycled content and compliance with the CalGreen Code??? Just kidding  , now aren’t you glad your not here in California with our codes? BTW this really was our motto:

Victor, Why of course, the spec sheet and sign off is under the two mason jars in the corner of the basement by the joists.

LOL…cool… love the header, jackstuds and fire breaks!!

Sara just asked. Did you get your environmental studies done??..

We sure did… We went around to all the folks in our environment, Me and Mr Winchester paid a visit to them all and asked if they were going to be complaining about us building the new house. And you know … not a one said anything discouraging about our project. We studied it well and they all approved…

Muuuu That Mason Jar was really the ticket… did it come from West Virgina??? Framing looks ok toooo me… Sign sealed and approver for insulation and sheathing…

It aint illegal until you get caught. Thats the Kittatinny moto.

That sounds like some of my projects.

Framing crew got a start… and quickly discovered an error in the blue prints… fixed by cutting apart, spreading the plans and taped back together. Anyhow the sheetrock guys will cover it up…

The framing of this little thing is takeing me more time per wall, then if I was framing a real house.

My decision to put blocking in between the studs, may have been not such a good idea. They are turning out to be very time consuming.

Now if inspector Sam will just leave me alone…

What are you using for ‘scale nails’? Looks really good.

That looks great! Very good workmanship.

Tom

Will it have a nice bathroom for us coffee drinkers?

That is really coming together Dave. It will be a shame when you have to close in all that nice stud work.
Your house reminds me of one a buddy built for a building construction class in high school. He had to choose a design then build it to scale like a real house would be built. It ended up being roughly 24"x36" and 30" tall. The true test came at the end of the class when you had to stand on your house. If it didn’t break you passed.
Keep up the good work and if you choose to stand on it when you are done we want a video.
Todd

You know, I think that framing detail is too pretty to hide. Maybe you should stop before putting the walls up and have a house under construction

Isn’t that wht he said in the beginning???

Wowza! That’s detail! O.O

When I built the gold mill I just balloon framed it. I do like the blocking.

@Craig I’m using 3/8" 23 gage pins… Its the smallest they make… And @1:20 scale there about 6" long… Really to big for framing but it’s the best that we have.

@Jon Never intended to be finished, the model is that it’s under construction.

You mean the toilet won’t flush?

Thanks. Guess I missed that :)
