drool.

I am not a modern railroader, but that is one nice looking car.

We can work one in can’t we David?

Well Devon, maybe. I do run a few of them newfangled, cantankerous, unproven, internal combustion, diesel-lectic things, from time to time.

And well done is well done, and that there is very well done.

excellent Mike. The details are great and you really do need two more for a train.(http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

Nope!

He needs to flatten the wheels and give us a video with the new car in the consist! IN 1080 HD

I agree. more videos please!

We love you too Dave . Gonna hopefully get the CJM up and running soon . Hopefully our monsoon season ends .

I had to check, I thought sure I was on the LSC Forum. It goes from a Center Beam Flat to guys declaring their affection. Did somebody do a Google search on LGB, again?

Back to the subject, nice work on the center beam flat. Like the weight.

That’s it I’m not giving you a hug at York anymore . But I will still hug your wife!

Beauty!! Very nice work.

I gave up on my 89’ flat car last year. I have some single flats with trailers that are top heavy. I need to get some weight down low and thought about making a whole new car by combining two to make the trailers fit on one long flat.

I need to take some notes here and get back to the drawing board. The other guys were going to strip down USA auto carriers but I didn’t have the heart to trash them. I guess it is possible to scratch build the cars to this level of detail!

Impressive work Mike! Looks amazing!! (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

Mike I am wondering if you are going to model the cables that are on the car? used to load off of those and had to help string the cables after they were empty, otherwise the railroad would not pick up the car. Great job I would love to do some too, since I am very familiar with them.

Hi Pete, I will be putting on the cables eventually. Still have to get the decals for it and then weather it.I found some really thin brass wire and will probably use for the cables. Since you actually worked on them then you can tell me how the cable ends are secured into the slot ? Is there a short piece of chain fastened to the end of the cable? Are there any other things on the cable between the winch and cable end ? Hope to finish this car sometime in the near future .

Beautiful work Mike!

Have you thought about fishing line for the cables?

Or an even better option would be stranded cable available from Precision Scale… If your interested I can scan the page of the catalog that has the cable and you can see what size would work. I’m planning on ordering some for my Snow Dozer build here shortly

I haven’t really looked into the material to use yet for the cables for this car. I did have some thin brass wire that I dabbled with and it seemed to have the look , size wise of the prototypes. I also liked its stiffness and ability to be formed. I didn’t know there was a cable product out there so I would be interested to see what that was all about Craig . I guess i’ll have to think about decaling and finishing this car finally .

I just scanned the page for you.

Interesting Craig , thanks for the scan . Maybe i’ll get a little bit of the .003 stuff and see if its what I want. Still would like to hear from Pete about the questions I asked him earlier. Precision scale says from 1" and up and i’d like to know the diameter of the cable on the prototype.

What I found online for wire cable tie downs is anywhere from 3/8 to 1"… So anywhere from 0.0129" to 0.413"

If we go with 5/8", that’s 0.0215" scaled down…

Point being I think that 0.003" is a bit on the small size.

Hi Dave , yea its a challenge . I use a aluminum 48" ruler clamped on each end to a work table . Its all about the first pass with the blade . Go slow and watch the angle of the blade. That being said sometimes there is a spot that messed up . Hopefully its wider than what I need so I can sand it . Otherwise its more stock for a future project. It would be neat if there was one of those Duplicutters for stock that’s 48 inches wide.

Ohhh… I wonder if one of the smarter metal/woodworkers on the site could upscale a Duplicutter… Looks fairly simple in design. (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-undecided.gif)
