Large Scale Central

Centerbeam Flatcar Build

Mike, I’ve been following along the whole time and my jaw has been on the floor the whole time. Incredible tedious work! I think tedium often yields high quality models. Well done.

Anyway, Was thinking of this thread on the drive in this morning and the question posed to you about putting a load into it. What!? To cover that art work? Blasphemy. Well that got me thinking of how all that time consuming work wouldn’t be needed if there were a load. Have you thought about more, but basically just model the bits that stick out of the Load? Might get you more of these on a schedule that the management will be amenable to.

Thanks Randy for your comments and for following my build. If I wanted a string of these cars that would be the way to go , with a permanent load and far less work involved. But …nah , then I wouldn’t be able to see through it as the car passed and that was part of the appeal of this car to me. I might do a couple more in the future of different design . I like the older “Opera Window” style and the newer all truss and no middle panel design too.

The time has finally come that I can say " I’m done building this car". I added some smaller details like the pulling rings , made from .015 sheet , underside brake details [that I can see from the side] some .015 plastic panels on the deck , etc. Now it will be on to the paint shop when I finally decide what to paint it. .(http://freightsheds.largescalecentral.com/users/todus2/gondola%20load/IMGA0700.JPG)(http://freightsheds.largescalecentral.com/users/todus2/gondola%20load/IMGA0701.JPG)(http://freightsheds.largescalecentral.com/users/todus2/gondola%20load/IMGA0703.JPG)(http://freightsheds.largescalecentral.com/users/todus2/gondola%20load/IMGA0705.JPG)(http://freightsheds.largescalecentral.com/users/todus2/gondola%20load/IMGA0702.JPG) .

truly impressive work.

Fantastic …I think I’ll take it in TTX yellow …I’ll send you my shipping address in a PM …(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

Rooster, he gave you the step by step building instructions and material list as he went. So you could build as many as you want. (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

As beautiful and well detailed as that is, and it is, its a few years too new for for my railroad.

I’m thinking of eather TTX yellow or MMA [Montreal, Maine & Atlantic] greenish blue . TTX are real common and the dirt , rust will show up easier but I like the other cuz its not very common and it looks cool dirty too . Decisions , decisions .

Gee Mike, maybe you should build another. There is a really good thread on Large Scale Central that shoes how to do it, step by step. (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)It even lists the materials needed as you go along. Thanks for the info Dave , i’ll have to look it up (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif). No more for a while , I still haven’t run a train yet on my railroad with work and such so that’s my next project. 400 plus not so Dwarf Alberta spruces anymore need a major trim job and track leveling and etc. Its still fun but I can’t do as much as I used to .

excellent Mike. The details are great and you really do need two more for a train.(http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

I can relate. But my consolation is that I am only 15 years behind schedule on my 5 year plan.

I have decided to do the car for MMA . I just like the color . After this one is done i’ll give it a little time and then start on one of these . This is a 60’ car with the older “opera window” design . They also made it in a 76’ version.BNSF 559060

Paint matters not Mike …it’s a sweet build that nobody else has that I’m aware of and that is all that matters!

Still like TTX …(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

MMA 35534Thanks Dave I appreciate that . Coming from you and all the other talented guys out there means a lot . I like TTX too . I did notice they own LOTS of centerbeam cars of all types and sizes . I haven’t got any paint yet for it so I still might change my mind . The other thing that TTX has going is I still have some decals from my flatcar build a year ago . Stay tuned as i’m getting antsy to see it painted a.s.a.p. I might just go enee mee nee !TTZX 87135

Well I couldn’t decide so I had my better half toss a coin. She liked this road name cuz the dirt and rust will show up better !Still have to clear coat it and call Stan for some decals. And the winner is … .(http://freightsheds.largescalecentral.com/users/todus2/gondola%20load/IMGA0709.JPG)(http://freightsheds.largescalecentral.com/users/todus2/gondola%20load/IMGA0710.JPG)
