Calling Eric Mueller

Hey Eric,

I have an idea for an appetizer for a meal I have planned.

I want to make some basil pineapple mozzarella skewers with a balsamic glaze. A take off of the traditional Caprese skewer.

My thought led to using split sugar cane for the skewers. Yes I can buy sugar cane on Amazon. But I thought it might be fun if I can get a friend sourced sugar cane straight from Hawaii. Any chance you could send me a couple of say 4 to 6 inch long pieces of raw sugar cane?

I plan to serve it with Musubi

you know, that heating sugarcane over open fire does not give sugar taste?
that gives more a mix of burnt bread and caramel taste.
(and, really, rattler on burnt bread is nothing to try more than once)

They won’t be cooked, toasted, or heated. Just a skewer you can naw on

Korm,
In Idaho they call it Knawing the Cane over the pit.

I get it Devon…but I have no idea what musubi is other than a Japanese car pronounced with a Jersey hooker accent in Amish country :rooster:

we just gnaw them without disturbing additions while working.

Rooster its a Hawaiian dish Eric turned me onto. Rice with a hunk of spam on it, wrapped in nori.

Bill,

We have no commercial cane left beyond some small farm-to-table operations. Any cane that I find in a store here is as likely to have come from abroad as here. Also, as an agricultural product, it might not clear agricultural inspections here or customs “down under.”

I will look for feral cane on my commute. I think there was a small operation there until the early 20th century.

Eric

You have the wrong person Eric Devon in Idaho wants it.

No worries I can get some online. It was just a thought
