With all the events that go on through the year, whether it be people hosting operations or shows. It would be nice to have some sort of calendar that shows the dates etc… Is it possible to have something like that. Then we have something to refer to. Its hard with my job, especially in summer to get off unless I give a few months notice.
Not a bad idea Shawn. It would need to be set up so that any member could enter an event so that it wouldn’t add a management task to Bob’s to-do list.

We had a calendar of events in one of the previous software versions. I’m not sure it got used much. Or perhaps I just don’t remember everyone complaining when it went away.
Yep, we had one. Nobody ever put events into it, though. Maybe Ill revisit the idea…
I thought I remembered seeing one here before.
It would be easier in planning things and keep things on one page/post. Rather then going by separate threads. Just an idea.

I think the problem is that it’s not “personalized” for you. That is, there is one calendar for the site, and all of the events for that month will be listed there. But probably most are too far for you to travel to, so you really don’t “care” about them.
It is also possible for one “local” event and one “remote” event to be on the same date. So, you may miss seeing the local event.
Plus, if the event is put up a year in advance, you may miss seeing it - or just to forget to check the calendar. Whereas a new post will show up in the Convention, Shows & Clubs forum and draw your attention to it.
I’m not against it, but it has been tried before, and nobody even missed it when it was removed.
Me, I just know that there’s at 4 events I want to attend throughout the year and I put them on MY calendar.
- ECLSTS - typically the end of March
- The Invasion - typically middle of July
- TrainOps - typically middle of August
- Andy’s unnamed event - sometime in the fall. Andy, you need a name for this!
Free dates I use for Bart or Ken to come run on my layout.

Last year, we had 4 Ops Sessions, about one every other month… The one that most folks come in for, is the fall Ops Session…
We haven’t come up with a schedule yet for this coming year, but Jane & I would like to have 4 again, this year…

Dear All,
As a courtesy, original posters to a thread should name the occasion and include date or range of dates in subject line;
e.g. “Summer Ops Sessions, 6-14 to 6-15-2014”
Original poster should bump to the top occasionally if other posters’ replies don’t. (8, 4, 2, and 1 week out…?)
In body of the first post mention if an event is recurring, how frequent, what time of year, etc.
No external calendar needed then.

Edit: I suppose you could add to the body of the first post the ‘area of the country’, e.g. “Southern IL”
I think a calendar is a good idea.
Some events may be of limited interest and not quite worthy of a thread.
Never can have too much information
It would be great if we can “page” through the months and plan ahead.
