C.V.S.Ry. M-11 in the electric shop

Cadlewood Valley Scenic Railway 45 Tonner #M-11 entered the electric shop today with the intention of adding Track Power / Trail Car power selection and a speaker to be driven by “Shorty” the battery/sound (Head End Power) car. After looking at what Bachman provides for speaker mounting (the fuel tank) I decided I’d rather lose the smoke generators and all of the electronics in favor of a speaker facing out the front grille. I have a couple of small oval speakers salvaged from some computer speakers that are a perfect fit inside the hood of the 45T. I’m a firm believer in enclosed speakers so I cobbled up a mount that will utilize the hood shell as part of the enclosure. Here it is ready for insertion in the hood shell…

A front view…

Some PVC blocks were added to the inside of the shell…

The enclosure floor fits over the side blocks and under the front block…

The rear is a force fit taking advantage of the flex in the PVC board…

And here it is snapped into the front hood…

After I’m sure it won’t interfere with the truck wiring I’ll attach it with hot glue so it can be removed if needed. I didn’t get pictures, but while the hoods and frame were in the electric shop, the cab went over to the paint shop for white lettering to match sister M-10…

Nice Jon. The guys on the KMRR had an engine in the electric shops as well. Its a top secrete project.

Shawn, did you find Rooster's stash :)

Jon,
You’re on a roll, knockin them projects out.
My projects are on hold for another month. Then I need to get my butt in gear

It wont be nearly as niece as yours.

Ralph if you spent less time on facebook maybe you would get those projects done

I post a lot more here, than I do there ;) Since the shed went up in flames last Summer, my work area has turned into a storage area. I finally got a replacement building, but have to get it moved over here. I hope I can get it done by the end of the month and get my workspace cleared out. Ralph

What's an Ooster ?

An Ooster is a Rooster that’s lost it’s ““Cock-a-doodle-doo””"…

I think I'll just leave that one alone.

By the way Jon , the locos are looking good. I need to get with you on some wiring in the future. I’ll let you know when I’m ready.

Thanks. I was beginning to wonder if the wheels dragging on this thread would ever make it back to the rails. So far 94% of replies are off-topic :frowning:

Dave - Feel free to call with questions any time you want. I’ll email you my landline if you like. My cell doesn’t work real well at the house.

Last evening most of my time on this project was spent removing the 4 studs that held up the electronics. They did not want to be unscrewed. I need to pick up a DPDT switch and some heat shrink tubing to move forward with this. I had the switches in my had at ECLSTS and for some reason put them down.

Does anyone know the voltage of the cab light on a Bachman 45 Tonner? I didn’t check it before I cut all of the circuitry out.

Jon if you need a DPDT switch I can send one to you. I have plenty.

You have to learn to appreciate all of the replies. It indicates we're here and we're watchin' ya :) After all, there's only so much one can say about a speaker ;) Ralph

I don't have to learn, I already do appreciate them :) Just noticing that the reply count was high, but really not.

And what, you don’t want to discuss impedance calculations, bass reflex design theory, or sound pressure levels ??? Gee. I’m hurt.

Progress Pictures…

Not sure it’s really progress. Looks more like regress to me.
