Large Scale Central

C-16 Forney-cation

Catchy title, huh? This is a project I started last winter that literally got shelved for a few months (it has been beckoning to me all summer long!). The primary parts are from a box of Delton C-16 parts bought on eBay and a Bachmann Porter drive (bought from Bob!). The domes and light are from Ozark Miniatures. The rear wheels from Sierra Valley (with an additional plunger type power pick up installed). The rear side frames are from a firm long out of bizness. The C-16 boiler, front pilot, and steam chest frame was chopped up and put back together. The results so far…

I like.

me too!

That does have great potential. Keep us posted, please!

Really, really cool!.. Hmmmm, I already have a spare c-16 cab, and the center part of the boiler, and the cylinder set, and the frame, and… And I REALLY needed another building project just like I need a hole in the head, gee thanks!!!

You have to finish that! It’s got great proportions and should be a real beauty when done. I hope you’ll keep us updated.

Looking good!

I wonder how many have been named Kate?

That’s looking really great–very nicely proportioned. Looking forward to the detailing

My kind of engine. Cant wait to see more

Looking forward to more.

Can you please explain Forney-cation as I’ve been married for quite awhile and I have forgotten?

Long headache, eh? I seem to remember that it had something to do with birds and bees and the Ark. Or was it teredo worms and the Ark?

It’s just a long winded conversation

I took advantage of the cold wet weather and spent some time modeling. The forney got a beefed out rear frame and big wood pilots front and rear. Lots of boiler and cab detailing added. I have a sight glass on order from Ozark. I’ll start working on the rear bunker tomorrow since we are expecting more of the same weather for two more days. Progress pics -

Nice work Brian. Liking these locos more and more. Not 7/8ths this time?

Yust curious, since I’ve never seen how a Forney is supposed to be layed out, but is the Johnson bar really supposed to be behind the engineer? Seems like it might be a little awkward to operate that way.
Thanks

Not this time. I do have a new 1:20 b-mann porter I will upscale to 7/8s this winter. Also a 7/8's boxcab kit to work on.

A bit of artistic license on my part. Forney cabs are pretty tight and don't have seats!

Looking good Brian.

Jon.

Built the tank and I’m pretty happy with it. Most of the detail parts have been added. Just a few things to do before it gets paint.
