The layout is looking good Shawn. The pond-less waterfall looks real good, though a few plantings will help tie it together. Need some Hosta’s ? Go for the hills in the scenery they’ll help with the look.(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)
Shawn, Did you trim the bottom of your spruce trees? They look nice.
Ron I did trim the bottom of the spruce trees. I do this to all them when I get them. I also thin them out after the new growth . It helps make them look more like pine trees especially mountain top ones.

I was afraid to trim ours when we got them last year, I wanted them to get established first then clip and shape them… I have about 50 to trim up real soon!
Vinny, I just did over half of mine just now. They look a lot better. Ill show you them when you come over on Sat.
I sent you assembled wood and a signed ass already Shawn, besides if you need the wood you know how to reach me!
Honestly my biggest concern right now is Ron and Vinny’s shaving party this Saturday and they may need to borrow your hat Shawn.
We are well beyond page 3 on this thread!

Lol thanks Rooster. If I didn’t have to work the weekend I would be heading to Ron’s to supervise. I hope they make a video at least.

If they start shaving Penny’s gnomes all (kind of bad) (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)is going to break loose
Hey I still have FUZZ up there, And I plan on keeping it!(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)
I got more work done today. I finished just before the rained moved. I went out and got a yard of dirt for my mountains. Its amazing how much dirt is needed for a small area. My first step was deciding where I wanted to put the mountains. That’s one of the disadvantages to having so much open land on a wide layout. After surveying the land I decided to build something in the largest area (behind the the yard area).
The first step was hauling big ass rocks to the area and then filling in. The process was repeated two more times. My goal was to create something similar to what one would see in along the Kittatinny Ridge. One of the common features is the exposed rock the was scoured out by the glaciers. One of the main rock types found is called the shawangunk conglomerate For info

I did this by placing the white conglomerate rock along the top of the mountain. Its hard to see in photo because the rock is still dirty. Once cleaned off it will show better. I still have to hunt for more of the rock to fill in spots. I found a good spot for the Rangner station.

I also made a smaller ridge line along the edge of the layout. I plan on putting fire witches on top like my old layout.
Looks great Shawn!
Great progress. I’m tired out just looking at the pictures (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-surprised.gif)
It’s the hat Jon!
I have to admit the hat gives me special powers.
If anyone is interested here is a video about the Kittatinny Ridge
Wow, coming along nicely.(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)
What did you end up using for your curve radius? The sweeping curves look nice.
I wear plenty of hats, but I don’t seem to move as fast on my layout… maybe there is something to the color!
And on a related note… There will be a traveling gnome headed to Ron’s house Saturday for my first attempt at live steam!

The outer loop has 5ft rad (10ft dia) curves. The reverse loops have 4ft (8ft dia)curves.
Make sure you get some video of your first time with the Lumberack. It will change you forever. It is all about the color. I feel much more masculine in Pink.
Shawn,
There is an old saying…It takes a real man to wear pink.
Joe how do you know that?(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)
Looking good Shawn!
