Large Scale Central

Building the CR&N Deadline:July 2017

22 pages and 3 + months, and not a foot of track laid…

If it takes 3 + months or better to get started, this might not even be done within this century… (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

P.S. Rooster made me type this… (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-innocent.gif)

23 pages…(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

But he has a deadline!

OK OK OK, now wait a darn minute. I am all for taking abuse, Lord knows I welcome it, walk into it, invite it, and expect it. Its part of living and sharing a dream. But I have to defend myself. 23 pages is because of all of you guys giving me crap and my defending myself. It would be about 5 pages if YOU guys would stay on topic (oh I am gonna get it now for that comment). And 3+ months to get started??? Two electrical circuits run over 50 feet with all associated stuff that goes with that, a 7X25’ hand poured cement pad including sod removal, forming and pouring, residing one side of my house including insulation; all of which needed to be done to build my railroad. Hardly have I been sitting idly by doing nothing. And all of it is a start on a railroad. Every railroad requires clearing, grubbing, and grading before tracks can be laid. So while the board of directors may not be happy with visible progress, the worker knows whats getting done. Oh lets not forget that the track came in Monday. Kinda hard to lay wait you don’t have.

So all I have to say to all of you is (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-tongue-out.gif)(http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-tongue-out.gif)(http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-tongue-out.gif)(http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-tongue-out.gif)(http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-tongue-out.gif)

Let the beatings continue. Love you guys.

Oh and Bruce. . .I am on right on schedule. I said I would have the prep work done by the end of July. Its done and the first on my list of actual railroad building would be my yard. Its being built. So you get an extra (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-tongue-out.gif)

Heh…and here I was trying to defend you! (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-foot-in-mouth.gif)

Your deadline is over 11 months away…so…not to worry?

Awe shucks, I am so used to being beat up I guess I have developed a flinch. I’m sorry Bruce, thanks for coming to the rescue. But your last sign is pretty much true and something that happens to me a lot. It will rush upon me quickly I am sure. But so far I am feeling good with my progress.

It’s OK Devon, I’m sure that non of your POKERS have honey due lists or anything else to do because their railroads are somewhat done. So they have nothing to do but POKE fun at YOU! You just keep POKING along and posting your progress, you’ll get to the same place someday (hopefully soon).

BTW, my lower loop is all re-leveled and ballasted. This only took me 3 weeks, but it’s ready to run. LOL

If nothing else he has set the record for the longest thread (23 pages) on building a layout with absolutely no track laid yet…that in itself is quite the accomplishment…(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-money-mouth.gif)Well, he can be long winded sometimes, but he is a nice guy with lots on his plate. I do agree with your statement though. I’m sure it won’t be every long and we’ll see Devon posting pictures with some track laid. LOL (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

My battery is charged and I am ready to try it out

23 pages and how many months? Again, my rebutt-all thread is 6 pages and has more railroading in it then this 23 page thread. You blame us for the fluff in your thread, but you started the thread and then didn’t lay track. If I started threads on_____, ______, ______, _____ or _____ , and then didn’t post any progress, Yunz would be throwing fluff my way. So those projects have not been mentioned on LSC, because I don’t want fluffed. So Devon, in a way, you asked for it.

You also tend to go off on tangents. “Oh I would like to build”, “How neat it would be if I built”, and no progress is being made on your fantasy railroad. That also invites more fluff to be thrown your way. I am ADD too, but I know better then to start threads on my fantasy builds.

When I think back to the building of my railroad, actual construction started Friday after work, and was done by Monday afternoon. My mom went out of town for a long weekend, and it HAD to be done before she got home on Monday, and it was. That was from virgin ground to running trains. It induced digging trenches, bending rail, laying wire, sub ballast, wiring each rail, making cuts and fills, making a trestle, Making bridge abutments and so on.

Not kinda, I did ask for it.

Well, you got what you asked for. You should be happy.

If only that would happen for me a bit more often.

David,

I started my layout build Saturday June 9th 2007 and finished August 5th 2007. This was all aspects of the layout, from track laying, trestle building, lift bridge building, wiring, and stuff I can’t even remember.

Here’s me about a week and 1/2 in, building the trestle.

This is the Golden Spike Day August 5th, 2007

I think it’s possible to build a fairly complicated railway in a reasonable time.

I am happy. With everyone picking on me I know I am loved. I really am not in any way put off. I am just teasing back. I can’t stress that enough. A few people have been concerned that maybe I am frustrated by the teasing. Not at all. The teasing is A OK I am getting quite a chuckle out of it all. I appreciate the concern but I realize this is people taking interest and encouraging. I thrive on it. I have very thick skin. If I didn’t like being teased ribbed or harassed I wouldn’t post anything except finished pictures. I also wouldn’t egg people on and outright provoke them. So folks it’s all good.

I think the problem here is a definition of what the starting point is. Maybe if I had waited to announce this build until after all the prep work was done and after I had all the track and turnouts in hand it would be much different. But since I have included you all along from the dream stage to the planning stage to more planning stage since I couldnt afford to build it, to the ok I can actually build it stage, to the making large improvers to my house so I can do the layout stage, to the ok my stuff has started to arrive stage, to know OK o can build my railroad stage.

But if I hadn’t included you all along for this journey then 1 we wouldnt be having so much fun teasing me 2 o wouldnt have gotten souch help along the way.

It’s a good ride. And when I am done I will appreciate all the support in all its forms. And I know I will have a great railroad that I have enjoyed sharing it progress.

Is it done yet?

even if it might look, like i am defending Devon, what is not my intention…, for those, who build a layout in a weekend or a month:

gentlemen, you may be industrious, but you are not sly.you build your layout at lightning speed, and then?

then the great boredom is stalking you.

I would never want you to stoop so low as to defend me, but I have a feeling if you look deep down inside your inner most recesses, you would have to admit at least one thing we have in common. For us its as much about the build as it is about the having it done. Your a builder and tinkerer and having a working layout out I am sure is important to you but it is only a facet of the larger process. I can’t wait until I have a working layout, but working layout does not mean done. I hope my railroad is never done. When it is finished it will be time to sell it all and find a new hobby.

What the purpose of model railroading. . . to enjoy ones self. I am thoroughly enjoying myself. . .mission accomplished.(http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-smile.gif)
