Building a Colorado Model

Dark Blue, and Primer gray.... :) or Dark Blue and white.... :)
What he meant too say was something in pastels with hints of blue or gray. Oh and clouds with cherubs holding lanterns painted on the interior ceiling with guilded gold egg and dart crown molding! ;)

is that BBQ Chicken I smell? Ok. Here is the picture of the finished building and then one of the two togather that I have done so far.

Next up is the dispatch building. I’m hoping to start on the mine this weekend and that one could take a bit to get done. Looking for the BS baby blue Andy asked for.

The buildings are looking great. I hope to start gluing my combination station this week. I’m debating which to tackle next. I went with yellow and gray trim on the first building.

Doug what ones are you putting togather for your combination? I like the way some people have put the tower and stations togather as one building. As I get better at putting these togather I’m thinking about kitbashing some buildings. just need to work up to that point.

The Colorado Models kits are great kitbashing fodder.
Ralph

Just wait till you get to the mine. Looks nice but the instructions suck. I’m finally getting mine put together with a couple of mods. Thinking about a second one to make the stucture a bit bigger.

Jerry you may want to check on yours as I also got mine in about a week. I’ve never had a problem getting my orders from them. Later RJD

Ok. Got the thired building done. This is going to be part of the mine area so its the same colors as what the mine will be. I’m still up in the air as to how well I like these colrs but they will work. Mine yard offices.

Now its on to the mine building. I will try and get step by step pictures as I put it togather. Andy hope the colors are ok.

Ok parts all unpacked and checked to make sure I have it all.

Its all here. Read the directions. The only thing I have to say at this point it that they do not make it real clear on the joiner peices as to what is what. Might send Bruce a e-mail and let him kow it would be helpful to make it more clear as to wjat J2A is and what J3B ect is. they kind of all look the same to me at first. The diff is some have a wide shoulder and some do not. DO NOT MIX THEM UP. you will need the small shoulder ones for a nerrow door way and wall that get glued togather. So far have only had to take three Advil, 1 Mountain Dew and 3 smoke breaks. Now on to cleaning up the casting left overs.

I painted a assembled a Colorado Model last summer and placed it on its base on the layout. So far from what I see thru the kitchen window, most of the windows and doors have fallen out. Oh well, back to the drawing board on glue!

Ron what did you use glue wise?

I bought the kits they had on their holiday sale and the water tower. I’ve never worked with styrene but I’m going to try Kwik Bond F. I’m starting with the station, hopefully this week.

I had some bad results with GOOP on the CMS buildings. One Interlocking Tower just fell apart.
I put it back together with Homax Welder. So far, so good.
Ralph

Doug, that is the same set I got and have three of the five togather. There not bad but lots of time trimming burs and stuff so the fit is what I wonted. Ralph lets hope I don’t have the same truble seeing GOOP is what I am using. Ok here are the parts all trimmed, cleaned, primed and first coat of paint.

Now time to tape parts off and do the trim colors. Progress is being made but its sloooooooowwwww.

But what else would we do with our spare time Geoff!
I liked the idea of using Goop but I’ll hold off and use the other glue until I hear what kind of luck you have.
I don’t want to look at the layout and see the buildings falling apart!

Geoff, it was a product called OMNI-STICK. I purchased it at the Southeast Large Scale Train Show in Perry a couple of years ago at a booth that sold Plastruct styrene. Supposed to be good stuff. I thought it would hold up outside. Boy was I wrong! The building could be condemed as delapated by the building inspector with all the windows that has fallen out.

It must have been Cleveland’s winters!

True Doug I'm working on them in a apartment 1700+ miles away from my trains so I have time and its a good thing for me to do in the winter.

I glueded two peices of scrap from the models togather and let it sit over night and then tested the bond. I was very pleased with it. The Goop holds strong. I don’t know what the weather will do to it. I’m not worried about the winter as I bring my buildings in. From what everyone has said it should hold up in the rain and sun fine.

Got about half the stuff taped off. I will take a picture later and post it. Right now its 11:30 and I have to walk the dogs and go to sleep.

Ok everything is taped off.

Trim color is sprad and I am waiting for it to dry. Glueing it all togather is next. This should be the real fun part. Mountain Dew … Check Advil … Check Smokes … Check Glue … Check Ok looks like I’m ready

All right. Progress is slow but there is progress. Here I am glueing one side all togather. If anyone is going to build one of these go get clamps if you don’t have any. I cut a peice of 1/2 X 1/2 to ack as a support on the tall section. I do not trust the little peices that come with the kit to hold it all that great. Back side view

So what’s the worst that can happen? Put in a stockade on the town square at noon Saturday for a public flogging? I will call PETA! I “CAN’T HANDLE” IT ANYMORE!
