Building a Colorado Model

Ok I asked for some help on Colorado Models on a diffent post a bit back and now I have gotten to the point of putting one of my 7 buildings togather. The first building is my Virginia Falls Station. The first thing I had to do was pick a color for the building. Well two hours in Lowes with my coffee was how my day started. The coffee was a good thing as when it kicked in I was quick to pick a color. Now I did a test fit of all the parts before cleaning and getting ready for paint.

Once I was done with the test fit and cleaning up all the parts in hot water and soap it was time to put primer on them.

I could nor find the krylon in a color that I liked so I’m going with valspar. I guess I will see how it works. Then it was time to paint the parts the colors I had picked.

The walls are a light green color

The windows are a dark green and the roof is brown. I have to let the paint dry now and will start to put it all togather next.

Valspar is ok and has a nice sheen “when dry” … I’m A.D.D and need to keep moving on a build so I like the Krylon products but color can be an issue at time’s so I blend or weather to get what I’m after. Which is easier than it sounds.

Ok the paint is dry so it is on to putting it all togather now. First I put the windows and doors in.

Then it was putting the sides on it.

I have to say that is went togather very easy. The longest time spent was on trimming all the burrs and things off the parts and sanding to get the fit that I whised to get. I happy with the colors and the way they go togather. This building is going to be used in my logging camp so I did not wont bright colors. I was looking for something that would look like the camp would have used as a office or what ever and been kept by them.

The painters tape will come off once the goop has set up all they way. Next up is the Walker Valley terminal.

Hey nice!!! Thats the color scheme I planned on using for my stations…and painted my Library/Study the same colors!

The colors do look good.
The station is a nice size. A bit larger than I thought it was.

Bart great minds…

Ralph the station is the perfect size. I realy like these models. Also I’m kind of going to use your colors on one or two of them. That color will go well with my SPC loco colors and that is the way I’m heading. I don’t think you can beat a Annie and a BBT drive.

I’ll post pictures of the others as I get them going.

Thanks
Geoff

What did you use for glue? Later RJD

R.J. I used the all purpose Goop on it. it seems to work well and has nor discolored any of the paint that I got some on.

Thanks for the info. I’m building the new Colorado mine. Later RJD

your welcome RJ. The mine is one of the building I also have to put togather as well. Don’t think I will get to it for about two weeks.

Like those colors Geoff. Really looking good.

Now for the next building Here are the parts with paint on them. Windows are the same Brown as the roof.

The walls are a light sand color. This is the base color. Trim will be next.

The trim is going to be tan in color. No picture yet. paint is still drying.

First off I need to say. taping off all the peices so I can do the trim color is a pain. I don’t know how some of you do what you do. I am about nuts from it, but I think the time effert and yelling at the dogs was worth it. taping off parts.

here is a wall with the trim done and the doors and windows in stalled.

Monday I will start to glue it all togather. I’m very happy with the color of this one as well.

Nice choices. Personally I use those two tone spray cans and just adjust the nozzles.

Geoff,
The cream/tan/brown combination looks great. I may have to use that combination myself.
It would look great on a station I need to build.

I’m waiting on my Colorado Structures mine, they seem to be slow shippers.

Jerry I would give them a call or send a e-mail. I had my stuff with in a week and this weekend I found that a part was wrong, called and got a call back. There sending the right part today. I did not think I would get a call back on Saturday but did. Bruce was very nice, very helpful. I would check on it Jerry.
