Building a 1:20 Mikado

Got the pilot deck painted and installed. Also added the air hose.

Cut the running boards for the fireman’s side and installed them.

If you don’t operate at night you might as well leave the headlight off as well

Operate is the key word.

I use the lights to indicate direction! Very handy when switching…

So I found out

This has to be some kind of record for Chandler. 33 pages, nearly 500 replies and over 25,000 views. Amazing!
Keep it up! LOL

It just shows how slow I'm going. ;)

But amazing modelling!!!
Randy

Amazing indeed.

Bruce,
What color/kind of paint did you use on the smokebox?
Ralph

Ralph,

It’s Testors Graphite Dust. http://www.hobbylinc.com/htm/tes/tes1849m.htm

When sprayed on, it was way too shiny, so I sprayed some Behlen Dead Flat (http://woodworker.com/dead-flat-spray-finish-mssu-934-154.asp?search=dead%20flat&searchmode=2) on to it…really changed the look.

It’s still not as dark as I want it to be.

Thanks Bruce.
I see it is a lacquer. I bet it did shine.
I like it.
Ralph

Added the grate shakers to the floor of the backhead. Also fashioned the step for the fireman to open the doors.

Looking good Bruce. Mind expanding on grate shakers, are they the six rods coming up from the floor?

David,

That’s correct. 3 on each side. I cheated…they don’t go through the floor. The step for the firebox door doesn’t work either.

Slacking off near the end. How you going to keep the fires burning if the grates don’t move? You did build the grates, right?

Amazing work!

I'm just trying to extend the topic. ;)

No grates.

I did put some piping in the cab, but you can only see it if the cab is off.

Oh well. On to the air pumps!

After all this snow you are going to have to add a plow to that.

No plow. We don’t get enough snow here to justify a plow.

I can understand. You’ve got more pages on this build than the model forum has for post
