One of mine too…!!!
I think Bruce is going to need some body Guards after this project.

Looks real nice… you have captured the look. Any chance you can add the full width deck behind the pilot? As in the photo of your model, the higher the eye level the more noticeable it is. Geoff

Wow that’s looking fantastic. I didn’t realize just how big this loco is.
Dave

Wow…talk about being blind! I never noticed that until you pointed it out. I’ll HAVE to look at it…

I’m paying attention Bruce. And admiring your work, but I don’t have any more words.
At EBT and on 15’s picture the classification lamps are very obvious and displayed at all the EBT functions. I’d add them, if you have time.
So… where is the flux capacitor?
Details, man, details.

Ric, I’m not convinced. When I first saw #15 a few years ago, there were no lamps. Brackets, yes. Flags.
This old picture of #12 shows neither lamp brackets not flags.
And then this picture of #14 from 1954 shows only flags. I don’t see any brackets.
So, when were lamps used on the EBT? They could still be added, as I have not yet done the lighting, though I’d need another set of wires for these.
Bruce;
The big thing is often ignored.....FLAGS BY DAY, and LIGHTS BY NIGHT.
If you are tempted to include class lights, then you should be able to turn them off.
Flags are much better than lights for our purposes as most of us operate during daylight hours. In our operations on the IPP&W we haven’t gotten into timetable operation, so we don’t need either flags or lights.
Taking our RailOps program a step farther, it would be neat to start looking at schedualling trains, and coming up with good flags would be a great help for trains that are operating as extras.
Any ideas for what we could use for flags, that would look good ? I’m thinking of looking at the fabric used for model aeroplanes…
BTW, that picture of #12, shows it with flags…and in all the photographs that have been shown…there has never been green flags…
The only indication of “Green” was on the picture of #15, where it was showing White class lights, but the green lenses were there, turned towards the centre/back. How often on the EBT, was there a second section of a schedualed or extra train ?
In any case, with all the fine work you have put into your model. Finish it off with a fine set of class lights, and flags too…You will be glad you did.
14 is equipped for lanterns (has brackets).
The photo that I posted earlier was taken at the 09 fall spectacular. The white trim on #15 was painted black so she would appear as she looked in her working days. The EBT had a special photo freight run and a night shoot (explains the lanterns).
From the EBT rule book:
TRAIN RULES
- Extra or Special trains will display two white flags and in addition two white lights by night in the places provided for that purpose on the front of the engine, and engineers of such trains must sound the whistle on approaching curves and keep a sharp lookout for track and bridge men.
Geoff
I like Mr Ringle…he’s keeping you on your toes Bruce!
Now get that FULL WIDTH deck on!
When will it be finished?

Not to be picky Bruce, but #12 has flags on the hand rails by the stack

Dave, that’s not a flag, that is the wiper’s rag!
OK…right on the flags on #12. Meanwhile, I’ve cut up the pilot and added the full deck that Geoff suggested.
I wish I had seen that earlier, but at least I was able to fix it; thanks, Geoff! It also gave me a chance to fix the support braces - I don’t know why I left them in their original location, but they’ve been moved out a few inches to accommodate the larger boiler.
Must be my eyes seeing a white cloth on a pole on both sides of the smoke stack that confused me
I’ve been doing some reading about classification lights and flags. (Sorry, Andre, this may drag out construction a bit more. )
Near as I can tell, with lights:
- If the “Green” light was on then that meant that there was more of this train following behind; another section if you will.
- The “white” class light meant that this was an “unscheduled” or “extra” train. Many freight trains fit in this category.
- If no class lights are on then that train was a “scheduled” train.
With flags, it’s basically the same thing, and I guess that no flags at all means that it’s a scheduled train. (Or, maybe the flag fell off? )
Looking through books such as “Mixed Train Daily” and “Slow Trains Down South” I saw numerous locomotives without any lights mounted, nor any flags.
I may add some white flags…or maybe not. I don’t think I’ll add any classification lights, since I only operate in the daylight.
