Well, to my eye, it’s still looks good enough to slap a big red bow on and stick under the Christmas tree…

I would have finished by now, but you made me redo some parts. ;)
Shame about the eccentric rods Bruce. Stress points or something else cause the failure?
I think I made them too short. Not only that, but I should have exercised a few of the sliding parts a bit more before connecting them. Whatever; I think I’ll feel better making them out of solid brass.
I “fear the rooster” is to blame…
No doubt on the Rooster being the bane of building. Thanks for the answer as I’ll need to work more with brass in the future
I dont know how you did it. I wouldnt know where to start. Im lucky I could put a box together. Looks great and I hope you bring it to the ECLSTS in Spring so we can see it in person.

Nice find Shawn. Glad to see you’re still trying to keep peace with everyone
Bruce, I can’t tell from the photo did you solder a shim or ring on the one end or grind down the rest of the rod

It’s my 7th locomotive.
Heck, I just started my 7th and haven’t been at it nearly as long as Bruce. Of course, most of them put together wouldn’t add up to this beast! I gotta get me some of that Neolube. It looks great. Keep it up Bruce!

David,
I salvaged a piece from the original Annie eccentric. It’s just glued on top of the brass. Part of the reason I took so long was trying to figure out how to make the ends. At the end, I cheated and just used existing parts. Close enough?

Well, I haven’t worked a lot on ALL of them. 1 - An Annie. It sort of evolved and went through many stages. It evolved into a Mogul, but now serves as a source for parts. 2 - Consolidation. A few modifications, but nothing major. It’s now awaiting a BBT transfer. I’ll look at some other mods once that’s done. 3 - A Shay. Just cosmetic stuff. 4 - The 1:20 Ten Wheeler. Major modifications - twice really, as it took a tumble and I rebuilt the tender and cab. 5 - Box cab. That’s major as well, as it doesn’t resemble the Bachmann 45 ton beast at all now. 6 - An Accucraft live steam Shay. Again, just cosmetics. 7 - Mikado. It might be done in 2010, but it qualifies as major.
Bruce,
Did your Connie die a painful death?
Ric,
It did once. I fixed it, but figured it’s only a matter of time until it needs it again. I’m going to use it as an excuse to do some other mods, though that seems to be quite a bit in the future. I really need to finish this project first.
I was just wondering because I hadn’t heard of you having a failure with it. Ken’s seems to be doing fine with the original drive, the last I heard.
Ken takes better care of his locomotives than I do.
It broke back in 2007 and it took a LOT to get a new gear. I’d guess it’s easier now, but I am such a big fan of the BBT drive that I decided to give it a try before it breaks again.
