Breaking News LGBoa is now Silvergate Distributors

I really like the feigned indignation. If anyone was really truly offended by what the other said, then they would cease posting and follow the path that Gerry took and create their own site where it is against the rules to have a different opinion to that of the moderator.

Of course it could be like two pit bull terriers going at it, not giving an inch and fighting to the death, or until one gives up. To the winner a lifetime of scars. To the loser, charge leads attached front and rear and house current passed through their bodies until the lights go out. Some people have all the fun.

Yes Tim,

The caption on my T-Shirt says it all. I got a super offer on that T-Shirt last summer (more than twice the new price), but it’s too good to part with.

Yes my friend when I think of you the word prick(ly) does usually come to mind!!! :):):):):):):):):):):)

Sheesh, you have time for that?? You really need to get a life, Marvin! Perhaps run some trains, do some work in the garden, read a book. And remember, don't tangle with those who have many points.

I’m enjoying the sparing, and laughing at those that seem contented to look at their toys under glass.

We just finished this year’s upgrades to the pike, and spent an hour or three, today, trying out a “kit-bashed” LGB 2-6-2 motor brick, under an old B’mann boiler-cab, etc.
The comments seemed to be centred around how so many “Kolektors” fail to enjoy their toys to the fullest, when they could be hacking, cutting and learning more about the MODEL RAILROAD hobby.
But then we all agreed, that it’s a free World, and we all hope they are having some sort of fun, sitting and just looking at their toys, in a stagnent heap, under glass or otherwise…!!!

Laugh a little, it does the heart good.

I've often noticed that no one ever tries it the other way around. Now that would show some skill!

Gotta get that last word in, eh?

Marvin!!!
What is this “Rubish writing”???

In the words of a once well known illiterate Australian.

Please explain.

Tony,

I suspect that’s how that rube spells, very “rubishly”.

BTW a long time ago I read one of Jack's contributions regarding the different versions of the LGB 3064 (the quasi RhB heavy weight) listing all the fine variations and ignoring that there wasn't a prototype. LGB's "model" was based on an Austrian "model" ....
Of course it is of no importance that wasn't the purpose of the article. I love how anytime you are squeezed or challenged you just shift the argument. I bet you were a big fan of magic (misdirection) when you were a kid. Prestidigitation? I did enjoy seeing the new tee shirt on the site you posted. "On a mission for Märklin". How many did you order?

Read #58 from 1988, I’m sure somebody you know has one.

For those who don’t know, this whole conflict started years ago when Herr HJ made his late arrival into the World of LGB only to discover that he had missed the lovely RhB GREEN era Ge 4/4 II. When he couldn’t find one for a price he thought reasonable, he started attacking collectors wholesale. Wa! Wa! Wa!
It didn’t matter a twit to him that most people had purchased one for the very same reasons he wanted one. So in the end he focused all his attention on THE Kollector. It didn’t matter a bit that his attitude got him thrown off half a dozen forums. But he has found a home here and I come to visit on occasion. I do apologize to those that have been forced wade through this. So I will end it here. I do hope to post from time to time, but I will return to my normal positive attitude and celebrate the joys of the hobby.

Jack

The way I see it Jack, is that HJ makes a positive contribution to the forums. Yes, he dives head first into battle with the two of you. But he also posts his projects and gives encouragement and support to the rest of us who post our projects.I may not agree with him at times. But he does have positive input.
On the other hand, John Joseph and yourself seem to be here with the sole intention of trading insults with HJ. It is like watching 6 year olds in the school playground.
I don’t care if you are a collector, scale nazi, operations fascist or just “play” with trains like I do.
Just contribute something positive here.
I have seen nothing positive here from either yourself or John Joseph.

Ralph,

I was preparing a really honest response for you including the subject of Depesche #58 and then found that others were already preparing a counter punch. I was hoping my apology would be enough.

One point that I find very amusing is the extent to which both John(?) and Jack (his real name) go to defending their position. My old pappy used to say when someone was standing on shaky ground - "He defends himself too much." It is the guilty party who constantly/repeatedly proclaims his supposed innocence.
So I'll put it on hold for now. If you would just ask yourself: if HJ continually complains about scale issues with LGB, when is he going to start on your Buddy l? Would you enjoy a negative post about your train choices every time you post?

Most of my contribution to the hobby was in magazines and at conventions in the pre internet days. So I’ll just leave it there.

As you can tell from my posts, I’m not a “suck up” so please take this as the truth. You have a really nice layout! I enjoyed the pictures.

Jack

Jack,
my passion in life, much to my wife’s dismay is LGB trains. I live for my trains and would honestly go hungry if I had to to be able to purchase another LGB product. The current ‘discussion’ has, in reality got nothing to do with LGB products, but with the way in which the company and its collapse were orchestrated. I do not attack LGB products on their fidelity to scale or their actual authenticity. I am a realist and accept that to extend their market exposure, LGB ‘badge engineered’ many of their products with totally incorrect and unprototypical roadnames and colour schemes. Even the original trademark model, the Stainz was a hybrid - marketted as a metre gauge loco when it was in fact a 760mm prototype.

I look past the innacuracies and accept the product for what it is - a TOY and a well made toy at that. Some however, who are not collectors, purchase the product with the intention of running a prototypical consist and find that model dimensions do not equate to reality. This all condenses back to the original idea that Wolfgang had of a well made toy, made to run on toylike track. Compromises were made to achieve this aim. Some may credit this basis as the reason for the company's initial success and others may claim that the company's failure to achieve prototypical fidelity was a reason for its failure.

LGB will always have a loyal fan base, but that loyalty needs to be taken in context. LGB gave many of us, many years of enjoyment and will continue to do so. Personally, I felt betrayed when the company failed. Market forces did have some part in its collapse, but other personal forces were in play and it is these forces that cause my ire. I will always support the product, but not the people who I feel were responsible for the failure of the company and feel that those who support the insiders are merely whitewashing the reality of the situation.
