Box Cabs

You could always stretch it to use up two trucks, the way that the Garden Railway Specialists version here in England does.

Okay, great, thanks for the link. Looks like a fine idea.

There’s already a 2-truck boxcab kit

The impetus was to build something smaller.

When we were traveling, we made a quick stop at Steam Town. Found this little candidate at the Trolley Museum across the parking lot.

Those little guys look like they could only pull an empty flatcar!

Bob,

For those of us who weren’t at the Invasion, what’s the general concept of the boxcab kit? Single-truck? Double-truck? Specific prototype?

Just curious.

YES, all of the above

No specific prototype.
So NO rules then?

Several years back I made a resin kit for a look a like GE Boxcab. It fir over the Aristo single truck ALCo frame. It featured an interior with engine, control stand, fuel tank and seat along with a removable roof. It is almost identical to the GE (Grandt) boxcab. If anybody is interested, I still have some. Send me an email and I will send you photos.

I would like a boxcab with two power trucks so it will “play nicer” with my grades. Is there anything that I could use?

Doug, I am seriously considering the GAL-Line 2-truck Box Cab…I have a couple of RS3 trucks I was thinking of using as motive power (Actually I have a “smashed” RS3 looking for a new purpose in life!).

Mark
The 1.20th scale version of my boxcab was designed for the RS-3 trucks. they would be way too big for the 1.29th scale version.

If you have any questions drop me an email at [email protected]

Ah, as I tend to fixate on 1:20.3 I forget there are “other scales”.

Seems like Tom is gonna be drinking some good beer this week!

With all this interest in boxcabs and boxcab kits, it seems like a “boxcab steamup” might eventually happen…

They really don’t blow my dress up at all…However Mr Golding has been dragging Ralphie the Railscale around various layouts over the years with his box cabs and I feel it’s a perfect fit …at least for me…saw some pretty cool steam ones while searching them out though!
