Bill's 2019 challenge

Bill, I was wondering if you were “in” this year! Looks good, and, yes, lots you can do with PLAYMOBIL!

day 9

Not much done last night it was too cold to work on the porch and tonight isn’t going to be any better, did get a roof for the kitchen area done and found a cyclone turbine for it also found a unusual looking bottle cap the has what looks like fins on the under side, looks a lot like a wall of roof vent and might put it on the back wall of the kitchen area. Tonight I’ll have to find some thing that isn’t too messy that I can do inside, maybe the diner sign. Got window sheeting cut to bulk size but not to pane size yet.vent fan

Bill, for someone who never gets much done, you sure have made a lot of progress (https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif). I like the bottle cap vent. Diner is taking shape.

I love finding train parts anywhere and everywhere. That cap looks great

Bill,

Among the many things I keep learning from you is how to see “opportunity for a model” in junk!

Eric

Day 10

Much warmer today, got into the low 70ths, was able to get the diner, actually café, sign done painted and lettered, also primed the car body and painted the roof a, kitchen roof and vent fan. The body roof I tried something new trying to recreate a cloth roof I had seen on an old train car that was covered with canvas and had been painted with a aluminum paint to reflect the sun probably very similar to the coatings they have for trailer park homes. Was very pleased with the results, seemed to curdle up a little more on one side than the other but just figured it was in the sun more each day. Suppose to half way decent tomorrow so we will see what we can get done, just hard to paint when humid.

So what is this mystery technique for the roof?

Bill great idea with the paint. That silver tar stuff does crack in just about that pattern. Will look good.

Me likes the roof painting. Do tell how you did that.

I second that. I’m always on the lookout and yes the cap looks great and the diner is coming right along.

Will you have a big sign on the roof like a giant hot dog or hamburger?

Todd,

Pay attention its gonna have a giant tea pot

washed the roof with dawn, dried and then wiped it with liquid floor polish like I put in my acrylic paints to harden the paint, then wiped it all off. when I sprayed it with primer it wrinkled, kind of like spraying lacquer over oil base paint

Any particular floor polish?

Where do you find liquid floor polish? I went looking for Acrylic floor polish last year and could not find it at the grocery stores.
