Guess I wasn’t posting in the correct location so I will start again, drawing and what I’m doing. Building a diner out of a cut up Bachmann combine

Day 1 well today I was able to measure and cut portions of the highly used combine into my proposed diner/café, and was able to glue them together, gut with a chop saw and razor saw for straightness trying to line up board seams, after securing the major part was determined that perhaps the kitchen section would be at one end rather than the back allowing the building to be longer but slimmer. Only have enough Bachmann coach for 1 side so am substituting evergreen #4150 for the back wall and ends. located material to make entrance doors and kitchen doors, during a small storm was able to design a sign for the top of the building on my silhouette

day 2 Did have much time today but got a little done, made a front door for the diner out of the car end door and it will go in the car sliding door spot, also was able to get the back side of the car wall glued and now just needs to be trimmed using a large paper cutter found Evergreen styrene # 4150 to be a close enough match to the car siding.

Glad you made it to the right place Bill. And glad you joined this years mix. I love your project concept and it is a real world thing that I haven’t seen anyone model yet. I look forward to seeing it come together.
So here is where I stand on day 3, had to buy, I know a bad word, some more evergreen plastic sheet # 4150 but the project has grown, cut the front door too narrow but was able to add a 1/8" strip to make up the difference. Still thinking about the kitchen area and now that I have enough sheeting it’s just a matter of choice, still thinking of colors and platform to put it on I do have some brick rolls that I can use and ran across a short Playmobil steps I can use.

It only becomes a bad word when you go over the $30 dollar mark. Looking really good. I am envious, I would like to build one but there would be no place for it in either of my layouts, but it is a very clever idea.
Ending day 4, again not a lot done today too many honey dues and being as I work on a open porch and with the high of right around 60 I remained inside until this late after noon when it got a little warmer. Got the rear side cut and glued and was also able to find a way to stand up being as there is no upper section on it to find into the factory alignment spots. Was also able to get 1 end panel cut and sized for the front door end. Decided on putting the kitchen on the far end sticking out from the clearstory roof and probably cover it with corrugated tin, that ought to make the kitchen nice and loud when it rains. Still haven’t picked colors yet, on top of the roof is going to be a sun rising sign that will be yellow (bright) so something that will fit along that color scheme probably white, orange, red combo I’m open to suggestions. Will be adding a door to the kitchen area and a couple of windows, and maybe a window in the front end
Don’t button it up without some kind of interior.
Being as it’s got so many patches inside from bonding the sides together not sure what I will wind up with, did get some golf “T’s” to make bar stools with though, just have to see, thanks Bill

I understand what you are saying by all the patchwork on the inside. Here’s a thought, many diners have pull down shades in the windows or this could be a classy joint and have pulled back curtains. Maybe some tissue paper (like they use to wrap presents, could be used to make curtains or window shades. Certain ones could be open where you won’t see the patchwork and instead see your bar stools (I like that idea a lot) and others could be drawn where you need to hide stuff. Would add some real detail and serve to hide unwanted scenery.

But if the patches are covered with booths, signs displaying today’s special, Pie racks and such, they won’t be seen.
Ending of day 5, again not a lot done, had cut an opening I the end wall for a window but made the opening too large, but was able to save it with a different and better frame. Turned window sidewise so I would have a sliding window for a takeout but kept the frame in the correct location so as to have a small lower ledge. Found a door in my treasures pile that came from old LGB combine that was broken in a hurricane and it seemed to fit the build better, expanded it a little and will goo in the bake wall of the kitchen area. It was just above 60 degrees today and I waited till about 3:30 for the porch to warm up, hopefully today will be warmer maybe just above 70 and I’ll be able to get a little more done.
End of day 6, my time is flying, decided to try some type on interior as per David and Devon, so I put many more patches of the rear wall so I can skin it and it will look ok, being as the rear wall is only .04 thick it’s pretty flimsy and the extra sheet will help stiffen it up. Added corner bracing to all 4 corners to aid in assembly. Fitted the front end with the takeout window and had to add material to the rear wall height to match the other and it fits good. Time to get started on Friday’s venture.
End day 7 finally getting caught up, made a new interior wall for the diner, had glued patches on the outer skin to even out the patches that I had put there to secure the wall sections. Trying to get enough looks to do a minor interior and great big plastic nonrandom squares were not cutting it, so added a bunch and added a skin of another evergreen planking that I normally use for wood walks and am pleased with the results so far as it hasn’t quite dried yet but certainly stiffened up the .04 wall a lot. went looking in the treasure bin for diner interior parts and found several playmobil parts, dishes, cups, coffee pot, stove, sink just a bunch of neat stuff, Eric of the triple “O” would be proud, see what we can do, Bill

Some heavy duty bashing going on right there. Keep it up Bill. Can I make my reservation for dinner yet?
Got the two end panels secured today used 2/56 screws and taped into the end braces, figured this way if I was to install a interior it would be a lot easier that trying to work in a box. Certainly glad I skinned the back wall as it sure made everything solid.
