Bill B's 2020 MIK challenge

fitted chimney

Again nice weather, day was used taking our “peanut” to the vets for a check up and setting up a time t have his teeth cleaned and some growths removed, not a happy boy, was able to get the termite shields done and secured to the concrete pillars got them to fold over toward the pillars using a heat gun on low, found that there is a side that folds up and the other down with heat. After gluing the shields to the pillars I sprayed right up using silver rattle can and after drying sprayed upside down with grey primer on the pillars, actually came out better than I expected. Also ground down a chimney section that fits in the playmobil roof center line that will accept the MIK chimney that way if running behind I will still be able to finish the project if I don’t get to the outside one, more to come, Bill

Excellent. Man your chimney sure looks good.

Looks like Peanut is resting after an exhausting day (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-laughing.gif)Oh, the building is looking good too.

Little bit done today, got paint on the building and selected white for a color as I felt it would show the weathering the best trim color is sort of a mint green, anyway building is painted and most of the trim, got the “concrete” blocks screwed to the base, fitted and cut the porches floors and believe it or not the piece I cut off to make the front porch floor, well the scrap fit the rear, what luck, got the base marked to screw the building to the base and now trying to figure out how to make the roof sway back being as everything snaps together, more to come, Bill

Taking shape and looking good Bill. Nice coincidence on material sizes there! Sometimes luck is good!

This is all very resourceful and creative…nice chimney too!

That will be a neat railroady building when done.

Thanks Todd, little more done today, added color to the porch floors and secured also got the house secured to the base, started adding ribs to the roof to get away from the playmobil look, and ran out of styrene so it will be off the hobby lobby or high fly hobbies tomorrow, then had a panic and pulled a Tim and couldn’t find my chimney, but after a couple of frantic moments it appeared right where I left it, + got the window and door frames painted, more to come, Bill

I’m glad the chimney was where you left it, Bill, otherwise I would have been concerned (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)Building is looking great. I enjoy watching you put bits and pieces from various kits together to get the building you want. Now that’s kit bashing on a whole new level.

‘…pulled a Tim…’ you mean I’m not the only one with a foot high pile of stuff on the work table?

Good grief you just perfectly described my workbench. It one big reason I’m kinda stalled on the challenge, my station is alot bigger than the available space on the bench. Didn’t really think that through before buying it.(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-surprised.gif)

Don’t feel bad, I am set up on the dining room table because it would take the whole contest to clean off the work bench.

Little more done today, got the strips on the roof done and painted along with the rear porch cover, + got the termite shields painted also fitted the chimney as to location and correct height, funny thing found the inside size of it is exactly the same size + 1/64" as my outdoor solar panels, so that is where the panel is going. About time to start some weathering , More to come

Slow day today mixed with Doctor appointments, merchandize returns and purchase of correct AC filters + had to go to Hobby Lobby to return wrong pouches that my wife had bought for her card craft, that’s a lot like a guy going into a train store to get 1 wheel, RIGHT, LOL but did find time in this crummy day, 62 degrees and drizzly weather, I know not bad but this suppose to be Florida, managed to get my chimney fitted with brackets to hold my solar panel + got it weathered and most important was able to get glazing in all my windows, and found it to be so clear that I might frost with dull coat to obscure some of the interior details, More to come, Bill

Got a little done over the weekend and was able to test my solar panel and light finally after the sun came out. The solar panel will be in the chimney and the rest of the unit will be secured to the interior roof, lit up pretty good just have to color the LED with a yellow highlighter to dull it down a little. The picture shows it as real bright white but it’s not as bad as the picture. Hole to get it dull coated today, sun is out and it’s suppose to get up to 70 today, more to come.

My PLAYMOBIL collection is running scared from your saws and brushes! Looks great, Bill!

Great looking building Bill

I am going to have to start keeping my eye out for playmobil stuff at garage sales

Yea it’s pretty neat stuff, I’ve built several buildings using their stuff, it’s not UV proof but holds up great is painted. If you go to albums and search “sawmill” it was built with it, very versatile product. On my old layout I had a bunch of stuff and that’s where all my parts are coming from, built a 3 story hotel that was at the base of my water fall for the tourist to stay in while visiting the Coquina Falls and back in the day there were hardly any 1/2" scale figures so I used the Playmobil figures and as close as you could get to the building was about 25’ and it just amazed visitors to the layout as to the number of figures I had cause from that distance you can’t tell what they are, had a lot of fun with that. Check out Eric Muller’s pictures he does a great job of staging scenes using them. Pink building on the left is the hotel. Thanks for the kind comments, Bill

Nice looking building, Bill… Great use of supplies… (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

Had a fruitful day yesterday and got pretty much everything done, got the window in, glazed and some pretend rollup binds. Found some old Playmobil furniture and decorated the inside but not much room still have some sall details to finish, more to come, Bill
