Large Scale Central

Barry, how's it coming?

A short update.

Yesterday and today: finished a custom 2-8-0 shipped this morning. Machined the lower plates to make ready for the drill jig. Check the mesh on regular stock gears, I need to explain:

During the first run of six, I was trying to get something to run. So in some cases I was reducing the gear tooth size to get gears to fit. These units were never to be sold and haven’t been sold. Dave Goodson has the only unit of the six that ever worked, the remaining five have been scrapped. Now I have tooling, which has to be checked out.

The mesh in the first test unit was lousy and I don’t know why. I have drilled two more main bodies and the mesh is perfect. This mesh is from the 16 tooth gear to the first and second 30 tooth spur gears. Then inserted the motor and worm to check out the worm mesh…marvelous.

Now the other covers have to be fit and proceed to make at least two gearboxes. One for TOC.

I think we’re getting there.

Waiting patiently.

Today I discovered that the lower cover can touch the worm gear (that’s a no-no). So had to change the length of the cover and adjust the tooling accordingly. All of the blanks have to be shortened by .040". Got a few done, but need to finish.

Have a swap meet at the club Saturday, so finished up three pilot truck kits, so I’ll have enough.

Check with you later, I’m really feeling good about this project.

I haven’t posted here an event for next Tuesday. I am going into the hospital for some plumbing work.

I have two aneurysms in the right groin. One directly in the joint, a stent for this one is not possible. And a bit lower is another aneurysm, which could use a stent. But after a couple of scans they determined a better approach was needed, so switched surgeons. The new guy will remove the two aneurysms and splice in a piece of synthetic piping, with rings around it about every 3/16". The rings are to prevent crushing.

So, the surgery takes place about 11:00am and after that I will be there one to two days to recover. As soon as I get back I will post the results. Actually, my interpretation of the results.

Good luck with your op.

Hope everything goes well for you on Tuesday. Good luck and a speedy recovery.

Chuck

Barry you take care of yourself now.

I hope and pray everything goes well and you’ll be back to full health in short order.

Thanks all, I feel real good about this. But in the back of my mind I know things can just happen. We hope for the best.

In the morning a club swap meet, a bit of work on Sunday and Monday.

Barry - BBT

Dude! You take care. Make sure you’ve got a good pipe fitter!

Good luck, Barry!

Barry,
Good luck with your upcoming procedure and may you have a speedy recovery.
Ralph

Yes - Good luck. Hope to see you posting again soon.

I will post as soon as I get back into the house. They advised the stay could be one day or two. But I’ll be around here for the next couple of days.

Went to the club’s swap meet today, had a good lot of help unloading, but had to repack and load to leave. I’m just not a fit longshoreman any more. Got home and took a nap, unplanned.

Will be working on the gearbox tomorrow and Monday.

I’m back and very tired. I have about a six inch wound from the inside top of my right thigh, up over my abdomen.
Got home about 5:00 today. Walking with difficulty. Haven’t spoken with the Surgeon yet, he couldn’t break away from a “family meeting”. Apparently, a more dire situation. I will call in the morning to find out what was done and my limitations, expectations and the follow-up visit to the Doctor’s office.

Barry, I am glad that you are recovering well. After a surgery like that, you fell like you have been hit by a pro linebacker… all of them. Just take it slow, and you will should have a full head of steam in a month or two. Let family and friends do for you.

Barry,

Thanks for the update. Take it nice and slow for a while. Just kick back and get well. And follow the doctor’s orders!

Finally talked with the Surgeon this morning. Basically, I can progress at my own speed. If I can handle it, go for it. I heard in the hospital, no driving for a week, no bathing for I don’t know how long. But both of those are up to me.

He made one statement, which I can’t remember what it meant. He said the wound may get puffy, which it has and I don’t remember if that is normal or of concern. I’ll call in the morning.

One thing that is a problem and that is getting up from my chair or the toilet. But it should be getting easier.

Barry glade your home. Take it easy and don’t push things.

That is G-d’s way of telling you to take it easy! :stuck_out_tongue:
