Large Scale Central

Barry, how's it coming?

Tom you could quote either the Beatles: "The long and winding road" or the Grateful Dead "What a long, strange trip its been" :)

Time for an update.

I have divided the remaining group of gear boxes into two batches. The next batch is 12 and the last batch is 10.

In the batch of 12, I have completed two, finished the machining on 6 and will finish the machining on the last four tomorrow.

I am going to change the instruction set to include the “Lubrication” ad on as a section in the instructions. Also will change out the template

for the new drawing. Making good progress.

Please note, the parts are not interchangeable between gearboxes. As time goes by there will be fewer variations between parts, but for the most part

the components are slightly different.

Lastly, I have to put together a new batch of instructions for this batch and will cover all remaining units in this run.

As soon as these batches are gone, a new batch will be started, probably fifty pieces.

Hi Barry.
I need some new instructions.
I keep looking at the ones that came with the unit and then find an excuse to not get started working on it.

I just can’t get into it.

Tony,

They’re not meant to be entertaining, just informative. Only requirement so far is to do it just once (if you like it, you can do it again, but that is optional). You could call Dave.

Everyone else;

Had two units complete, got the documentation together and they’ll be shipped in the morning:

Steve Haskew, Al McEvoy.

Hi Barry.
My comment was not meant as reflection on the instructions. It is just me summoning up the enthusiasm to get started. ;).

Tony, OK. Barry

Status:

Finished assembling the rest of the gearboxes, save one which isn’t quite right yet. Took half an hour per drive to assemble.

Am now assembling the documentation to ship.

Will be starting the next batch of 50 next week.

Packed and shipping:

Alan Thomas, James Chrysler, Dave Funk, Charles Suggs, Guy McClure is coming to pick his up.

and finally John Bouck.

Send John Bouck’s unit to me. He said he is getting rid of all his large scale stuff and going to Lionel 3 rail.

Steve,

Sorry, when I post the name it means it is already shipped.

Barry,
I finished installing the drive. Smooth as silk and runs the same. I thought it was a simple install. I gutted the electronics and then installed batteries and airwire.
I accidentally coupled it to the tender of my K-27, while testing, and the connie dragged it half way down the test track before the it started to roll. Can’t wait to see how many cars this baby will haul. My original drive gear was full of hairline cracks. This install was just in time.

Besides,
Steve ain’t a narrow gauger. He’s one of those Ssssssssstandard runners.

Oh, Thanks, John,

I didn’t know. Now I understand.

(I hope I haven’t opened a door…).

BBT

Ah, it was a nice day to open a door…

Richard Slater,

Thank you for your comments, very much appreciated. I am interested with the progress you make with the unit.

Dave Goodson had some good results with his prototype unit and I hope you will equal or exceed his accomplishments.

I believe this setup has the potential to be one of the best ever largescale locos.

Mine arrived yesterday.
The lokie is at Mike William’s shop for some modifications. It will be installed while she’s apart.
