Barry, how's it coming?

Barry,
I had a combatability problem with HP products. HP released a patch to correct the problem. I downloaded the patch for my printer and it was only a few megabyte. From memory it was not the download you mention (193mb is a big download). This download is a complete driver download for all HP items. I would enter the HP website and search a compatable download for your scanner.

FOOTNOTE: Barry, I typed in the following in Google search and got numerous hits regarding incompatability with HP scanners - ‘Windows 7/HP compatability problem’. Came up with this response -

Barry,
follow this link on the HP site, for your scanner model and see if able to troubleshoot.

This seems like the troubleshooting link you have used - safe mode installation

Barry,
follow the link to find why you lost Outlook express. You must be running the beta Windows 7 version.

Tim,

I am not panicing. I saw an ad for Windows 7 announcing it’s release on 10/22/09. I can wait it out.

The big download was completed finally, when I tried to install it, it came back as incompatible OS. The help Tech at HP tried to down load a different file (I think ?) which was about the same size. HP probably has the driver I need, but I won’t see it until they have to release it.

Well,

After a severe outage, I’m up and running with the occasional hard crash. Just got out of one caused by clicking on a pps file.

Got TOC write up to be merged with mine and his template arrived yesterday. Just checking it out this evening, this is real slick. As soon as, I can get the write ups merged, edited, and back to TOC for his critique, we’ll be on our way. Target for this weekend.

I have lost so much time, but the 'puter is finally solid. Problem: bad WiFi card.

I’ll dig into the instructions full bore tomorrow.

Got so bad, my mail box got full, on friday. But couldn’t get to it until this morning.

email address is still the same for now, or you can try [email protected]. That may be my future address. But it is working now.

This all started with my conversion to Windows 7. My techie friend in the park has been using it for four months, hates Windows/MicroSoft,
but swears by this product. My experience has been spotty, but I can see a lot of very comfortable applications. Still have to get my Bookmarks.
Did save all of my Pics (whew!!).

Barry don’t confuse window’s 7 with the new windows 7 coming out oct 22nd two different animals. Stay with windows 7 until new one comes out, I have had problems with windows 8, and it will randomly ask you if you want to upgrade to windows 8, Yes the new system is going to be released oct 22, hopefully. Just wanted to try to help you out hope I did and didn’t confuse you. The Regal

Windows 8??? Hell haven’t got a full handle on seven.

Getting close, need a special download for my HP 1018 printer, needs download from their techies.

BUT the system seems very solid compared to eaier versions.

Regal, what the %@$@?

Windows 7 Release Candidate, or a testing version, is what Barry is using.

FINAL release is the one coming out on October 22nd–it’s more stable than the release candidate. It’s still Windows 7, just it’s a final version with a warranty and tech support.

I’ve been using the final release for a month now and it works fantastically well relative to the release candidate.

Robbie, Jerry,

Good info, thank you both.

What we found is a bad WiFi card, have converted to a router and everything is solid. “Everything” is qualified, my little laser printer will print script, but not B/W pics. Keeps asking to select the printer and get a driver, which doesn’t exist yet. HP promises that they are updating and releasing drivers as fast as they can. The scanner driver is not ready for “7” either.

But, the system as it is is very solid, I like it. A few changes (no Outlook Express), but it is very smooth.

Barry - BBT

Barry, try Mozilla Thunderbird–it’s basically a free version of Outlook Express.

It appears I may be sending you a Connie with Geoff for conversion–we shall see.

Robbie,

That has been suggested, but I am getting used to the new LIVE program, no too bad.

No aversion to Mozilla, I am using FireFox.

Sent off the first draft (complete) to TOC for his review. He is a contributor as am I. We will be adding the most helpful pics after this.

Had a real problem trying to send these, the mail system slowed down to less than a crawl, one download, wait ten minutes.

Discovered I had left a disc in the E drive (R/W). Took it out and rebooted, voila…back to normal.

Barry - BBT

Talked to TOC today, He has read through the inst. set and has a few changes. He has gone through the photos and needs to go through them again.

I am hoping that we can reach a quick resolution and start shipping, then sending amendments as appropriate.

I will keep you advised.

Question Robbie? How do you and others get on the list for this trying out all this NEW stuff in the computer world, and train world, like the beta testing for different train items, and things??? Just curious, I would like to try out new things for different types of computer or train related items toooooooooooooooooooooooooooo???/ The Regal

Sorry Regal, but I got Windows 7 via the computer science department here at college, since I’m majoring in either mechanical or computer engineering. This isn’t beta testing though; it’s the full legitimate release.

Oh you have to be “special” huh!! Geeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeez wish I was!! Hah LOL The Regal also to clarify I did not know there was such a thing in computer softwear, like in trains so when I commented on Barry’s deal was thinking he had put in windows 8 which Noel and myself have had trouble with as far as our “live channel” goes, and had to go back to windows 7 that was the confusion not wt*&*%??? Hah you get excited quick huh!! Regal
