Large Scale Central

Barry, how's it coming?

I thought I would try again.

Barry

Have been interrupted by a priority customer for the past few days. All of the side cutters I ordered have arrived
and have checked them out so will begin milling the bottom cover Monday. Will be finishing up the priority customer tomorrow.

As soon as I can I am going to take a day off, I figure I have been working about 30 days straight. But will have some more pics on Monday/Tuesday.

This has been an interesting process, someday if it is worth telling I will, but I think I have to get to the end first.
A lot of dynamics at play here.

Am working on the instruction set this weekend. Have worked over the pictures for my section. Hope to have my section done tomorrow.

Also had to update the 4-6-0 instruction set to include some of the Annie differences.

Have the Connie Gearbox order form done, and I am working on the announcement letter.

Hope to issue the announcement this coming week.

Have all of the cutters I will be needing, have to check them out, then off to the races.

I have been building gear boxes and writing instructions (not finished, but getting there).

Am going to copy the emails on my “special list” and will be sending out order forms and the announcement.

When the order form is finished and the announcement is made I will post the order form here, If I can.

Barry - BBT

Thanks for the update Barry.

I’m definitely interested in a replacement Bachmann Connie drive. Staying tuned for more info on it.

Matt,

Send me an email, so I can add you to my list.

This morning I sent out announcements and order forms to those who posted on my list for the Connie Motor and Gearbox.

Needless to say the list is now closed. And I am open to take orders.

Will try to post an order form here or better, contact me by email and I will send the form to you as an attachment.

The instructions are not completed, but I will have mine done by the time TOC gets back from his round-a-bout on the 23rd.

The instructions will be completed before any units are shipped.

I don’t know a bout you guy’s But reading about Barry’s day’s are making me tired!! Hopefully we get some feed back from the masses!!! Just stupendous Barry!!! Sean

Sean,

Thank you. I am now taking orders for the BBT Connie Motor and Gearbox.

No orders will be shipped until the instructions are completed. I am working on my part of the instructions and Dave will work on his part when he returns from his trip on the 23rd. Dave is the only one who has installed the boiler and cab over the new BBT drive.

If anyone wants an order blank, email me and I will send the order form as an attachment in reply.

Talk about bad timing…started to upgrade from Windows XP to Windows 7. Have been down for the past two days. Need to send acknowledgements to the orders that have come in, but Outlook Express is gone. Replaced by “Live”. My video card had to be upgraded, put in a larger C drive (from 40 Gigs to 160 gigs). Then my scanner wasn’t up to specs (it is ten years old), so it has been replaced, but lost the little button which send the image to an email to be addressed and sent. Now I will have to put it to the Pictures file and attach it, send it and go back and kill it.

Have the first two sections of the instructions done 1) Dave’s “how-to” separate the Boiler and Cab from the chassis, I have finished the written portion of the dis-assembly of the chassis, removal of the third axle, refitting it and replacing it in the chassis. The next part (today) is to mount the drive to the new axle gear ass’y. I will go back over the written description and add the references to the pictures needed to make this all clear for everyone.

Dontcha just love advances in technology.
It wasn’t broke so they decided to fix it.

I kept W98 until the death knell and I intend to do the same with XP.
By the time XP is ready to die MS will probably get all the bugs out of all the intervening “upgrades”.

If it ain’t broke they’ll fix it until it is!

Have been having electrical problems. The back half of my house is mysteriously disconnecting. It is probably one of the circuit breakers on the outside post. I’m in a mobile home community. A friend (electrician) came over to try and find the bad breaker, but we couldn’t get it to drop. He’ll be back.

Haven’t completed the install yet, especially the new scanner. Got to find out how to send a scan on an email without having to save it to Pictures.

Haven’t been on line since my last posting, hopeffully I can get everything back on schedule.

Barry,
If you live in a doublewide, the two halves plug into each other under the house.
If half your house is out, I would have the electrician check that plug.
Ralph

Barry:

For the scanner - check for updated drivers. It should install and let you scan directly to email.

Unless the scanner is not supported in Win7

Thanks for your comments. Replaced the breaker on the post.

Your observation on the wiring plug is good, but the two sides are joined length wise and the electrical break was between front and back.

The breaker popped again last might at 12:04. Just went to sleep.

The scanner will have to be ready in October, for the release of Windows 7.

I’ll contact them again and have them send a CD, the down load is too slow. But the speed test showed my machine is capable of some pretty good speeds.

But, back on an even keel, except I’ve got a real sore throat.

I just replaced a breaker on our double-wide but it was in the box and it only served a couple rooms. One on the breaker was the refrigerator! And it popped at least once a day! When we pulled out the old breaker parts of it were actually melted! The new breaker works fine!

Barry, your scanner wouldn’t happen to be an HP 5300c would it? Seems to be a very popular model that is not compatible with Vista.

I went nuts trying to find a way to make mine work with my new laptop (Vista 64). HP states they no longer support the 5300c and if you want it to work with Vista to buy a new scanner. Yeah thanks a bunch there HP.

The only thing I found that allows it to work with Vista is a 3rd party program called VueScan. It costs $40 or $80 for a professional version, whatever that is. But they have a free download to test.

I tested the fee download and wow my old scanner now works! I haven’t tried the front buttons, and I don’t think they would work with this program. But at least I can scan again. And $40 sounds a lot better then buying a whole new scanner when my old one is still perfectly fine and in great condition too.

Here is a link to VueScan:

VueScan

I’m not 100% it will work with Windows 7, but the website mentions it does support Windows 7. So if you have the 5300c, give VueScan a try. Beats having to buy a new scanner.

This new scanner is a G4010 and my old scanner was a 4300 (worked just fine, but ten years old).

As of posting this, I am operating in Safe Mode with Networking. I expect this to drop at any time.

But I’m past the electrical problem, now it’s just this guy (computer). Windows 7 is supposed to be announce on 10/22/09, so I’ll just bide my time. There is a download from HP that is supposed to work for me, but it is 193 mbp and my computer starts in to it all right, but slows down to dial up speed, I’m on a 11 mb wifi connection, so something isn’t quite right. But I am going to wait this out. The guy helping me with this has been on a trial version of 7 for about 4 months. Hasn’t like Windows (moreover, Microsoft), but says this has been running flawlessly.
