Started laying out a passing siding.
My buildings need a home. No room here in Huntington Beach! I even got the damn things in my closet, in the living room and on top of my dresser. My SD70 had to go into the closet on the floor. Shelves in garage loaded too and I got four Piko’s in the box waiting…You owe me for my side excursion to Upland Trains today!
What building do you have and $ for them.
Do U have any PICs?
Remember I’m a poor olt man be easy on me.
David
PS:
Nice sand pile.

Well today I was headed out to work on the railroad and a small attlesnake decided the railroad would be a good place to set up camp. I tried for a while to convince him to move onto green pastures (Towards Doug Arnold’s place, his railroad is nicer) without success and had to dispatch him.
I’ve been hauling in DG for the roadbed and may toss some more track down this weekend.
Dave, look in modeling forum for any post by Mike Miller.
Looks like a start John. Waiting to see how you attach and level the track.
Knock on wood I haven’t seen any snakes — yet!
Just lots of coyotes around.
well Dave, we laid about 40 feet of track and did some leveling and planning after dealing with the snake. Thunderstorms rolled in that evening dumping over an inch of rain, so no work on Sunday, and now we are evaluating some drainage improvements.
I’m still finding places where water flowed over the tracks – three weeks after our cloudburst!
Doug Arnold said:This is a regular occurrence for us who live where it rains regularly. Most of my railroad sits under pine trees and needles are everywhere. After a big rain the piles of needles show me where water flow has been slowed by an obstacle, usually track.

Doug, we got just over an inch last Sunday, so we are hauling in some more rock and ballast. My brother is building me a bridge today (12"x48") to deal with one spot.
To give ya’all an idea where it goes.

Well we finished grading the mainline, laid about 30 feet of track and built a temporary crossing. I plan to build a “Jon Radder” style crossing at some point. I have to lay another 30 feet or so to drive the gold spike on the mainline, I would have done that tonight, but I need to put three more switches and a bridge in that 30 feet.

Oh I forgot to post my visitor to the railroad…

Another one? Boy they must like all that new dirt and grave you’re bringing in. Be careful!!!
John, need to put some of these up around the track work!

Oops! I did it again.
Okay we dropped in three switches and a temporary track across the location of the bridge. Since it is temporary in nature I am not calling this a golden spike moment for political reasons on the home front. This spot on the right is planned for the small railroad town called Lassen. This is the interchange with a shortline railroad that serves the town and mine at El Patron. Lassen will have the usual railroad facilities consisting of a small engine house, fueling, station and sheds for the section gangs. Forgive the photo, it was taken in very low light (note solar lights are on) and I photoshopped as good as I could.

Okay it was a big weekend, actually made great progress, three weeks ahead of schedule. Here is a test train crossing the bridge we are installing.
