Bachmann K27

HJ-
Yes, Bachmann Corp. did get some negative publicity.

I remain puzzled as to the apparent consistency they enjoy from our advance enthusiasm for upcoming locos --and then continue to advance their history of marketing products that appear untested.

Normally I stay out of idle speculation types of discussions but perhaps I can end the speculation by providing some first hand information. If you have concerns or a question ask away.

I have spent the last few evenings testing the electronics in the new Bachman K27. It is now on its way to its next location.

Often the manufacturers get zinged for the apparent lack of testing. This time we all got a rare first hand look at an early pre production model. How did it run. Actually rather well and better then I expected. Is it ready to be released for sale. Myself I think it needs some tweeking first. The key thing here is that the very hard parts, like the equalization and the funcky rear truck worked extremely well and perhaps better then anyone expected for the first try. There are not many models out there with the suspension advances that Bachmann is trying out on this model.

What we got was a rare public viewing of an early model so we could see it warts and all.

Do parts of my railroad need some track maintenance? Absolutely! Good track can hide a lot of locomotive flaws and a good locomotive can hide a lot of track flaws. With poor track you have to have allfully good models to stay on the track. We had an operationg session one week before the open house I have no idea how two such bad track sections got overlooked. But dispite that the K stayed on the track in both sections. (A few others did not)

On my railway I can leave my LGB locomotives unattended for hours but in the past I have had to watch most of my Bachmann locomotives so for operating sessions we tend to use Bachmann but for just running we tend to use LGB. Hopefully this is about to change. We shall have to wait and see.

PS So that no one is surprised and since this is my first post on this forum in a long time, my wife is in the Model Railroad business and neither of us have any financial ties to Bachmann. I have assisted with the electronics inside this locomotive and agreed to test these out for them but only on a volunteer basis.

Thanks for the first-hand info, Stan. Good to see you posting.
