Looks like the latest annoucement will handle the Ames Super Socket, long version, just fine.
I can’t wait to see how they access it from above and still keep the water out.
TOC, That is very easy - DO NOT run in the rain! That would be OK if you owned a VERY large warehouse for a RR room! But them, sense they live in La La Land, what more can you expect?
Paul
The Biles-Coleman articulated logging 2-6-6-2 should find some devotees, especially fans of the Ames super socket (should be plenty of room to hide it out of the weather - who runs in the rain anyway - except mad dogs and Englishmen and the occasional Spokanian). As it has been announced and considering Bachmann’s policy as regards new products, then one must assume that design/tooling are well underway. The long caboose announcement is more an anti-climax as most have been anticipating the release for a long time.

Doubt that nice Mallet will be R1 capable, guess we know what they did with the Indy motorblock tooling
Not too bad looking…

Drawing doesn’t agree with the specs… http://loggingmallets.railfan.net/list/prop/bilescoleman.htm I guess no photos of the model? One motor or two? .
Logging mallet? Damn, and I thought I was done buying locomotives…

Nice lookin loco!
Proposed, but never built, right?
Dave,
you are not being cynical are you - shades of the Vulcan ‘fiasco’ maybe, or maybe a shift in Bachmann’s product announcement policy.
Exactly. The same website has the proposal spec sheet and drawing, remember the color one is taken from another published drawing. Since the “real” one never existed afterall…

Funny this came, the On30 folks have been asking for this one. A bit large for my needs, but I bet this bugger will find a following. Now, how long until it hits production? Can anyone can confirm a pilot or mule at Anaheim?

So anyone want to be the first to take a stab at how you’d go about making her into a coal burner with no saddle tanks and a tender? Looks like it’d be a challenge to get the cab far enough back…
(Assuming the Stan-dard socket doesn’t necessitate the tanks being part of the boiler)
**** And … another thing.
The Bachmann board says:
" based on the Baldwin drawings for the never-built Biles-Coleman
logging articulated"
Wasn’t the Indy “Based On” a few different locomotives too?
I will be interested to see one.

We’ll cal this one “Whimsy”
Garrett,
simply a play on words and expressing a degree of cynicism as to this project reaching fruition. It centres around the loco being proposed by Baldwin but not built. It follows Bachmann’s logging theme and will be welcomed by many. What they need now are scale-length logging disconnects and a log loader.
too late Dave, someone (not me) already dubbed it Artie the Articulated
Hmm… I guess if one breaks down, Artie chokes?

Not of any interst to me…
I think it looks cool, and it doesn’t bother me a bit that the prototype was never built. Unfortunately it won’t fit my budget and probably wouldn’t fit my layout’s curves.
There’s anecdotal evidence that Baldwin–rather fond of their 2-6-6-2 designs for the Uintah–pitched similar locomotives such as this one to numerous narrow gauge lines, including the EBT and I believe also the ET&WNC (and likely any other railroad whose master mechanic would listen). As such, a loco like this would be a very plausible addition to anyone’s freelance roster if the railroad was looking for new, powerful motive power in the mid-late 20s/early 30s. I look forward to seeing one in three dimensions. I don’t know if it would end up on my roster, but I do think it will be well received.

No tanks and a tender, sure no problem.
