Large Scale Central

ARS Railroad Hobby Show - Jan 25-26 2025

Thanks Dan. I tried to get up that way but the parking lot dudes wouldn’t let me up there. That’s where I park for the Large Scale show. If I had shown up earlier, I probably could have gone up that way. It’s rumored that the gates at the West end of the property are open and unmanned, at least very early in the day. i didn’t check today.

We can try again at the Large Scale show in May if you make it.

Good day all!
Here’s a video of large scale layouts from yesturday at the train show. Other photos and videos to follow soon enough.

{{EDIT: I had to re-upload the video}}

For me, Day 1 at the show went something like this…

I met @manimal Dan. It was great to talk to him. There is so much lost when just reading each other’s messages on here. (I still enjoy it, but the real thing cannot be beat.) I also met a few of the guys from NHGRS since I joined the club! Very excited about that! Today I am bringing some stock and two engines with me to the show in hopes of running on the club’s layout.

So, if you’re at the show today, look for me with NHGRS!

Thanks for the video. Did you happen to catch Larry Moser’s 80+ car PRR unit coal train? It’s gotten even longer since last spring at the large scale show. At times you can’t see the entire train as it traverses Big Green

I went today with my daughter and her two boys, it was well attended and nice to see old and new friends. I just bought some food and drinks and walked the boys and headed home before the started to complain

This just in. Total show attendance 27,535. A new all time record!

Did any of you guys get a 3D selfie “mini-me” print?

I heard they were all booked up before 10am on Saturday. I wouldn’t have anyway, but it seems like they didn’t have many chances to get it done.

I really enjoyed getting to know Larry a bit today. I took some photos and videos of his train today, which I hope to get online tomorrow. Those cars are quite impressive; all 3D printed and finished by himself. Honestly his whole space was quite nice. I love his trees.

I don’t know him well. We’ve said hello at shows for years. He used to post on MLS. Not sure if he still does. At one time he had a really nice large outdoor layout. I think he tore that up. Those cars are very impressive.

Yes. Best to use Gate 1

Larry has started printing Trinity 3281’s now. Here are the first 4. I asked if he was going to do 90 of those and he said maybe 50. lol

I think I overheard him saying that last night while we were breaking down. It became neglected and he opted to just pull it out.

So, Day 2 at the show was so much fun for me! I had joined NHGRS on Saturday so I packed some stuff that night to bring on Sunday and I was able to run two train (both my operational engines, same rolling stock) throughout the day. I went through all my videos already and uploaded some compilations.

There’s a separate video for each of my engines running.

I also uploaded a video (the best I could manage) of Larry’s coal train. It still doesn’t show just how long this thing is; almost 90 cars!

Finally, a general video of other members’ trains on the layout.
You can see a few LSC members’ modules and trains throughout the video (my apologies if I missed someone’s stuff)!

  • 0:50 @Stan_Ames modules. (Stan, I love that engine shed!)
  • 3:32 @Eric_Reuter SP passenger train ft. my heritage train in the yard and featuring Eric
  • 4:04 @manimal freight train and Eric’s SP again plus his modules at the top of the shot)

I also took some photos. Maybe I’ll save those for the future.
Overall, I had a wonderful time this weekend and met some great people.
