Aristo Spare parts wanted and crazy prices

Well, I need a few replacement horns and windshield wipers for my newly restored Aristo FA-1 diesels.

I went on ebay, and WOW! Someone selling ONE RS-3 horn for $38 !!! It appears crack cocaine is cheaper than an Aristo horn!

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Aristocraft-ART-22200-Alco-RS-3-Diesel-Locomotive-Horn-plastic-replacement-part/173435760998?epid=1301591772&hash=item286193b166:g:mJgAAOSwjXNaTvfi

Look at his other parts, $30 for each part. Looks like he disassembled an RS-3 and thinks he has part of King Tut’s treasure!

In any case, after you all have had a laugh, if anyone could part with a couple of horns and/or a windshield wiper for an Aristo FA-1 I would be grateful, man those horns are BIG! About the size of a scale trombone!

Regards, Greg

Greg, all,

if you can supply originals or drawings I can print near perfect copies very reasonable with my 3d printer Form 2

AL P.

Yeah, I was thinking that this would be a market, these detail items are easily broken. I know GLX might do them.

How do you like your Form 2 Al? I heard good things about it. Do you have a 3d scanner too?

If I don’t find these parts, may very well take you up on your offer, I’m sure there is a market, and it appears this horn is used on multiple Aristo products.

Thanks!

Greg

Greg,

I have one FA1 horn you can have, on me. I also have four RS3 horns. I guess I will have to watch Ebay to see if that guys sell. Anyway I can put the Fa1 horn in the mail to you if you want. I have your address.

Paul, that would be greatly appreciated. I guess we need to find a way to have replacement parts for those of us with “fat fingers”…

Thank you very much,

Greg

Get hold of Jim Kruger, President of Orange County Garden Railway Society for spare AristoCraft Parts. He also has access to BridgeMasters inventory. He probably has what you need. PM me for an email address.

Greg,

there is a learning curve to any machine, but I am getting better at making VG parts the first time. I do not have a 3d scanner, probably never will. I can measure parts and draw them in 3d faster than one could scan, and get superior resilts.

Al P.

Or you could take what you have and cast duplicates. That technology still works.

WOW! With shipping to Canada, that ebay part would be over $80.00 USD!!!

Yes, Greg Elmassian, I can replicate them and add the to the other 3D printed Aristocraft replacement parts I sell. I just hadn’t had a request for horns or windsheild wipers, yet.

Greg

how are you sir how have you been? I wanted to know how or when can we get together and talk about dash 9’s from Aristocraft and talk about locomos and G scale trains? What do you say?

thanks

Marco?

Thank you Gilbert, I think these are definitely detail parts that often need replacement, and I’ll check to see how common they are / used on several locos.

Tony, if of the conversations you want are helpful to others, go ahead and start a new thread on Dash 9’s on the motive power forum. If it’s only something for you, email me… you see my signature, I don’t do private messages.

The forum can really help others with similar issues.

The horns on my A/C diesels are continually breaking when I turn them over for service, even in a foam-lined cradle.

Todd,

Do your A/C diesel horns that break include the ones on the ALCO FA1 - the subject of this thread?

Thank you,

-Ted

Yes, as do the horns on my “U-boat.” The FA are plastic “chromed” while the U-boat is grey plastic. But they are the same design.

Yes, the FA-1 changed from the early chrome to body painted in the newer versions.

Greg

I have a lot of Parts for Aristocraft Pacific and Mikado. Not any of the metal stuff, but I have the stuff that breaks. Eccentric cranks, Hand rail stations, and mpst of the side gear except the main rods. Also have Headlights and lenses. I have marker class lights but no lenses, but would work for someone who broke there marker light off but still have the lenses !

Good to hear from you Rex, my “B” unit says hi!

If you have FA horns and maybe a windshield wiper or two, please let me know!

Greg

I’m getting the samples of the horns and wipers, along with the RS3 horn to Gilbert (GLX) this weekend, so he may have them available soon.

Fred Mills

Great Fred, thanks!

Definitely parts that people want.

I’ll bet the USAT wipers and maybe window shades would be good ideas.

Greg

Greg;

Aren’t USTrains parts still available from USTrains ?

Gilbert (GLX) does NOT copy, or engage in making replacement parts for locomotives/rolling stock still being manufactured, or supported by their original manufacturers.

Gilbert can explain for himself, what his policies are…but he does not PIRATE parts. PLEASE respect him for that, as I do.

He uses original parts as examples of what is wanted, and makes parts which in most cases are a shade improved over the original, and of a more durable “Plastic”, if he can.
