Aristo Craft engines

I’d like to see the SD-45, again. GN 400 "HUSTLE MUSCLE."

The SD45 was perhaps the best diesel Aristo made, popular, pulled well, not excessive in length, had the nice 3 axle trucks, etc. Could not go very wrong with that. Also an excellent “starter” loco as opposed to a Dash 9 or RDC or RS-3 or other locos that have issues with tighter curves and coupler overhang.

Greg

Yes, my vote would be a nice SD45 in the Northern Pacific paint scheme, the black and yellow canoe.

Yeah, me, too.

I have to vote for the SD-45 also. The stance of it just looks “right” to me unlike the Dash-9. It is a real good puller too. My other choice would be the E unit . I never got one when they were available and they looked good too.

I’d like to see an SD9 (could be purposed as an SD7 too), it was a very popular engine in its hay-day! And as Greg suggested of the SD45, it would be a good puller utilizing the existing 3 axle trucks (correct truck wheel base too) and the length would be a scale 5’ shorter so all good IMO…

AND, it would be a NEW offering verses a re-released version of engines that have already flooded the market! Would the market support the investment, hard to answer same. Yet the SD9 would play well with nearly everything else previously produced and I suspect it would be a very good seller too as I like many fellow modelers would likely purchase several of the early Cadillac’s to round out our motor pools.

Of previously released engines, I’d suggest the GP40 as it was widely used throughout the country and more. These engine were produced in limited numbers unlike others. Look on eBay right now, not a single GP40, which is atypical…

Geez Nico- page 3 already and you haven’t told us which Aristo engine you want…

-Kevin.

Edited just to catch Rooster’s attention because he too has not responded to this thread. And we all know that deep down inside he’s an Aristo guy.

It’s not so deep ha ha!

TAC’s one off NP SD 45. There isn’t another one like it. The paint job was done by Shawmut Car Shops with decals by our own Stan Cedarleaf…

I would love to see the long dead SD9 project done, espically in BN cascade green, along with bringing back the SD45 in the same colors. now if someone would do a G scale Stratolite beacon for them! More modern road names need to offered as well like shortlines, regionals and leasing companies that run these older units still. A high and low nose option needs to be offered for the SD9 if its done, much like the SD45 could be had with either a high nose for NS/NW/Southern ect or low nose. For new, never done engines, how about GP15’s. Used heavily for years by many class 1 railroads. Short wheel base should allow operation on tighter curves. Should be interesting to see what Bachmann does with the old Aristo tooling. Mike

Steve,

I have a friend here in Washington that has two custom painted N.P. SD45’s. But, no photos. He has run them on my layout.

Again, the reminder, Bachmann has stated to a few people that if they bring anything back from Aristo it will be what they already have molds for.

So the SD9 does not fit that definition.

So if we desire to influence Bachmann, picking from the already manufactured Aristo locos will be the most helpful.

p.s. I am not trying to be the forum “traffic cop”… but marketing departments are quirky… if we show a concentrated, united, and focused opinion, it can instill confidence that the market is there. Conversely, if we have all kinds of scattered ideas or opinions, we (the G scale community) might seem to “risky” to bet on the production of 1:29 locos. So, this is my motivation, for US, and the hobby.

Well said Greg. For once it would be nice for everyone to stay on task and not de-rail this. Opportunity is knocking on the door.

BTW did you go to the train show this weekend that Vic talked about? Were the Bachmann people there?
