I was having an interesting conversation the other day at the Amherst show. So the question came up. If you could see one of the Aristo-craft engines produced again, which one would it be???
Thanks in advance,

An RS3, Nico. So many railroads had them.
I agree, the Alco RS3 would make the most sense.
It was the “most popular” model Aristo made in terms of how many real railroads used them.
And I wouldn’t be surprised if it was also the “most popular” model Aristo made in terms of how many Aristo RS3’s were sold.
Scot
Hard to disagree with the RS3. But, man, I really wanted a Mallet.
-Kevin.
The only one that I kinda want is the Consolidated, but I would think the FA1 would be very popular.
None of the above. If they want to stimulate the market, get something new out there.
The Dash 9’s would be my vote.

I bet this would be the SD9!
-Ted
Ted,
Well, since you brought it up. I had a talk with a guy from Bachmann at The Worlds Greatest Hobby Show last week. The SD9 did come up. I mentioned that Kader already has the trucks and side frames for it. No new investment for that. We also discussed the slow market. In part of that discussion I mentioned that I have some hobby money to spend but that I also have most everything I need in whats now available. He seemed to be listening. Wish I could remember his name. Tall slender guy.
SD-9 in GN Pumpkin scheme.
Did I say that out loud?
Something old would be Dash 9
Something new SD9 (BN and DME)
A Consolidation, with WORKING running gear/drive block would be great! The one I have is a shelf queen, but she sure is pretty.
I agree, the RS3 has been produced to the point that they are almost everywhere.
How about bringing back something that hasn’t been produced to the point of almost saturating the market. Like the dash whatever, or the SD whats its number, or, (he says with a gleam in his eyes) the E8.
GP-60… oops did I type that out loud?
My interests are so idiosyncratic that I have zero clue what would work for the mass market, because I’m the kind of guy who likes these kinds of things:

Not something I would get, but would people buy one of the recent Genset locomotives such as the one here?

Probably would not be able to finance it but I’d like a G version of the HO scale John Bull set, though not made by the same company as the HO set; do the bodies at 1/24 scale tweaked a bit to run on what would be the equivalent of 42 inch gauge track.
I love the RS-3, so dorky looking and different, but for today’s market it would have to be a more modern diesel.
David, you can’t get your consolidation going? Hey let’s start a new thread and fix it, I’m sure many people will learn a few things. Mine runs sweet, best steamer they made in terms of QC.
Greg
Greg, its on my someday list. Right now I cant even find my workbench. So, yes, I want to fix it, but it will have to wait a bit longer.
Come on now David, set some time aside and clean your work bench off. Don’t become a “Devonator”. Oh, did I say that out loud. LOL, HeHeHe.
Great idea Greg.
Chuck, I have 3 flat cars and 4 gondola cars on my workbench that I need to finish. And on my outdoor work table I have a half dozen hopper cars. On my computer shelf, I have an HO Mehano Mogul, and spread out in the living room I have a bank building. So I am basking in the aura of being a true and devout Devoner.
Even though I have little interest in dismals, I did admire the E units Aristo produced. I bought 2 of them. They should come back in every livery that USA makes for their streamliners. And a B unit to go with them!
Although I’d have to agree that I like the RS-3 I have the best. I would really like to see USA Trains take their S-4 and make it into a RS-1 with Aristo Craft power trucks. But I don’t see that happening anytime soon.
