Anything good to see heading to N. Carolina?

We are heading to Charlotte N. Carolina this Tuesday evening to watch cars go in circles next weekend.
Our travel route takes us Rt.95 south from Rhode Island to pick up Rt. 85 headed to Charlotte in Virginia.
Looking to see if there are any good shops or sites to visit (train/hobby related) that will be in our travels.
I know I seen a Garden Railroad display advertised at a nursery that is somewhere along our travel (can’t remember the name).
But just seeing if there is anything out there we should stop at during our travel.

Thanks!

Well, the Virginia Museum of Transportation in Roanoke is on the wrong side of the state

However, the much larger North Carolina Transportation Museum is right off I-85, less than an hour north of Charlotte.
A must see.

Plan on spending 3 or 4 hours. You can zip through much quicker, but you’ll probably wish you hadn’t.

Little Choo Choo Shop is right across the street from the N.C. Transportation Museum. New Hope Valley Railway in Bonsal, NC has a garden railroad display.

Well we managed to make it to the N. Carolina Transportation Museum.
Had a great time, and had the place pretty much all to our self!

I will put up some pictures hopefully tonight for those that may be interested in seeing what was there.

I put a album together under my profile with all the train pictures, I also have the full album on my facebook page that you can look at.
Some pretty nice cars on display also.
The photo album on my FB page is set to public so if you have a FB account you should be able to view it.
I also have the album here set to public also.

Nice pics. Thanks for posting… Bummer about the storm and the beach…

We actually didn’t get a drop of rain the entire vacation accept on Sunday when we were traveling through W. Virginia headed to Pennsylvania.
Other then that we had temps in the mid 70’s, went down to the low 60’s at night.

Great pics of the racing museums. Thanks for posting them.

And the transportation pics.

There’s always the Battleship USS North Carolina, BB 55 in Wilmington, NC. Great Naval Museum. Private, too.

We had a great time visiting some of the race shops in the Charlotte area, we also met and talked with Chocolate Myers at the Richard Childress Museum.

If you check the FB page a little later tonight I should have more pictures posted, especially of the Hershey factory that we visited on Monday.
That was fun, but staying at The Hotel Hershey was pricey… but it was a once in a lifetime visit so it was worth it!

Yes …but do you have any pictures of the F-40 there at NC museum !

Do you have any pics of the street lights in Hershey?

I don’t do Facebook

OK Vincent, I went up and saw all the pics of trains and cars, and even a Wright Flier. There was rain and beach pics, or did I wander into some other vacation set?

If I knew what a F-40 was I could tell you if I have a picture of it!
And yes, I do have pictures of the street lights in Hershey, just have not posted them yet.
I will put a pic of the street lights up here when I get them loaded.
Also have some nice pic’s of the Hotel Hershey, that place was amazing.

I also liked the chocolate colored roadway leading to Hershey!
