Any updates on REVO?

Robbie said he will have stock the first of the year and some new things.

Now being made by a company called Precision RC. According to their ad in the latest GR, they’re the ones who designed and manufactured the original TE, so “same stuff, different company name.” Kinda like a lot of narrow gauge railroad reorganizations. (Ever wonder why some railroads changed from “XYZ Railroad” to XYZ Railway?" The EBT’s parent company reorganized from the “Rockhill Iron & Coal Co” to the “Rockhill Coal & Iron Co.” Or vice versa, I forget. Anyway, I digress.) Suffice to say the folks making the stuff are intimately familiar with it and its history.

From the web site, it looks so far to be a straight reboot picking up where they left off. No new sounds announced yet, though they list the USB programming interface as “in stock.” There’s no mention of software to download and program, but all in good time, I presume.

Later,

K

Thanks for the update Kevin.

Here is a link to their website… http://www.revoelectronics.com/

This is good news!

OK Kevin your the first to post there new name with backup, you win

Kevin under support i found down loads for sound and some other things

cheers

Richard

It would be nice to know what the sound files are… but finally some are there, we know the USB stick has been in the states for some time, and there is the loader program.

Good news.

Greg

Greg would that be the USB Device Programmer SKU57020 shown under the products tab?

Yep:

Someone who is supposed to know told me the Train Engineer 2.4s will be in in January. Let’s hope so.

Well, that is what Robby has been saying for a while and that is what the Revo web site says, and that’s what Navin told me, so your “someone” has the same information.

Greg

YAY!!!

Sorry, I’m not a habitual name-dropper. I don’t like putting people on the spot like that. But that’s just me.

BAD NEWS i have been told that this is not backwards compatible.

cheers Richard

What is not backwards compatible? Being able to use the USB stick to load firmware or sound files?

I just got off the phone with Navin, and those downloads on the site are indeed sound files, so people will have a choice.

I’ll be getting my setup in January, and Navin pointed out something I had missed, that they have a new LINEAR base station.

This will be good for people that have systems where the sound card cannot use PWM. I’ll be evaluating and testing it in January.

Regards, Greg

Yes, a Linear base station and a PWM to linear filter. That’s good news for some of us who can’t use PWM.

The old base station CRE 57005, sometimes referred to as the Super Revolution, was supposed have a choice between LINEAR and PWC. You can still see the choices on the ASSIGN FUNCTIONS menu of the throttle under item b “Rx Type”. Unfortunately it was not produced that way.

Be aware the Base Stations are polarity sensitive.

The PWC to LINEAR DC board CRE-57091 was produced. Actually there were two of them. A light duty version CRE-57090 for sound boards, and a heavy duty version for locomotive power.

LGB Battery Power Car

I used a CRE-57091 in my LGB battery power and radio control car when I was told LGB motors did not like PWC. I still have 3 of them in my spares parts. I was considering using them in USAT battery power and radio control installations so the main circuit board with it troublesome voltage regulators could be maintained to power both the motors and lights. But I preferred removing the circuit board and adding LED lights with dropping resistors instead.

Are these new sound files with locomotive choices?

Or are they just updates that were made to the diesel and steam sounds we are familiar with.

I know the diesels sounds files were modified. When Lewis asked the audience at an ECLSTS to e-mail suggestions for improvements to the Revolution system, myself and a fellow OVGRS club member sent him 7 suggestions. One of them was to eliminate the horn and bell sounding every time the diesel started or reached 20% power. It was really annoying, as we made numerous stops to change directions while operating. It took a while, but that change was made.

From my conversation with Navin, there seem to be more than just one diesel and one steam… the files are already there in the download section as well as the downloader/updater program, and also firmware for the throttles.

If you look at the file names, you can see which are diesel and which are steam.

LGB motors do like PWC, they are tied to decoders in the MTS versions w2hich do pulse power to the motors. It is the sound and/or the electronics which do not like PWC. In fact many DCC decoders will give strange results on PWC.

I have a decoder equipped engine which will not work on the MRC 10 amp power pack but runs on my aristo/crest 27 mhz set to linear with no problem.

Reason for this is a decoder could see the PWC pulses and think this is not DC but can not lock in to a DCC signal as there is none there.

I call this the Peter Pan syndrome as the decoder is in never never land!!
