Any updates on REVO?

What I found interesting was the Active Linear Plug & Play boards

  • Built in Active PWC to Linear DC/DC Convert.
  • Input Power:DCC,AC,DC,Battery
  • Output: Linear voltage output.
  • Current Rating:5Amp cheers richard

Yes, DCC rectifies to DC even better than standard 60 Hz AC…

Dunno why they call them active, since they are composed of completely passive components.

OK, I called Navin.

  1. The VERY EARLY transmitters (with plastic keyboard, not rubber) are not upgradeable… most were part of the Beta test, but a few were sold.

  2. notwithstanding #1, ALL transmitters are the same hardware and will run the same firmware, old and new, sound and non sound receivers.

  3. the USB dongle will update ALL transmitters (when they release the files)

  4. the USB dongle will update all the “new” receivers.

  5. They are working on this, so that the USB dongle will update the OLD Revolution receivers. Remember that the main engineer on the Revolution is one of the owners of the new Precision RC company.

So, bottom line, is that unless you have one of the very rare plastic keyboard transmitters, EVERYTHING will work with EVERYTHING.

Greg

Thanks, Greg!

But until they do #5 and they have know this for awhile. Everything will Not work with Everything.

WRONG Richard.

The old receivers work right now, you just cannot update/change their firmware with the USB dongle yet.

Do you have a receiver that needs new firmware? Do you know anyone that cannot use his system because he is waiting to update his firmware? I doubt it. This would be someone with old Beta hardware that never updated it.

The USB dongle to allow firmware updates is a NEW feature, and NOT necessary to run your system. The system WORKS with old and new receivers and old and new transmitters right NOW.

Again, repeating:

So, bottom line, is that unless you have one of the very rare plastic keyboard transmitters, EVERYTHING will work with EVERYTHING.

WRONG GREG

I can use caps to. I said was that the usb can’t be used with the old receivers now to change the sound. Everything will Not work with Everything

cheers Richard

OK, you can split hairs all you want.

The important thing to customers is that the NEW stuff works NOW with the OLD stuff.

And, soon, you will be able to update firmware and download sound files yourself.

This is the most honest way to present it and most helpful.

And you did not specifically say you were just talking about the usb, so your post gave the wrong impression, and I will quote you here:

“But until they do #5 and they have know this for awhile. Everything will Not work with Everything.”

Everything you have now will work with the new transmitters and new receivers.

I believe that you are focusing on downloading new or different sound files. We all have wanted this. Clearly this product will never have the depth and breadth of Phoenix, for example. Is this your problem/expectation?

You did fail to do me the courtesy to answer my question: If you or anyone you know is UNABLE to run trains because of needing a firmware update… thus logic would infer your issue is new sound files, or changing sound files.

How about coming clean and stating what your issue is, instead of being a downer about the hard work it took to get the Revolution line back in production (no thanks to the previous management by the way).

Greg

Greg

I will not answer your question because it has nothing to do with what i said your #5 only deals with the usb. my point is because you said EVERYTHING will work with EVERYTHING and anybody goes out and byes a usb to change the sound it will not work right now. the end

cheers Richard

OK, so all you want to do is split hairs. You win.

Well the good news stands, anyone invested in the Revolution can now get additional receivers and transmitters.

Also, a full linear only unit is available, good for people that have locos with regulators that do not like PWM

Also, Navin is there, who is a great guy and will take care of people as he has for 20 years.

Greg

I just received the “trackside” full linear unit, with fan. It’s small enough to fit in a large loco or tender or box car, so you could use it to power a consist of locos.

I’ll be putting pictures on my site and testing it out.
