Any Model Railroad deals on Black Friday?

All the local news right now are people camping out in front of stores to be first in line tomorrow night or Friday morning for a 42 inch TV for $199. If there is any one day, that I refuse to go near a store is the Friday after Thanksgiving. Tradition has been to work on the model railroad this evening, before the people arrive for Turkey tomorrow, tomorrow evening after a nap and a turkey sandwich and then on Friday until we leave for the setup of the modules for the train show.

Tradition around here is always to keep a real low profile in the basement between the Wednesday before Thanksgiving until Christmas night. Its best to just eat your meals with your head down, watch football when you can, keep a low profile and let the women go through their craziness.

Can’t imagine giving up a turkey dinner, naps and a football game for a deal on a TV.

How much are the idiots saving by camping out??? I think in the long run when you figure the time spent waiting and the fast food costs, that $199 TV is no bargain. I’m like you Ric, I play with trains from Thanksgiving to Christmas. Oh yea, I play with trains from Christmas to Thanksgiving too.

No deal, even a give away, is worth the agravation of Black Friday. It got it’s name for a reason and I for one refuse to participate.

My wife and I both work on Fridays. So we’re not about to lose any sleep to go shopping.
All our girls usually go shopping together. It’s a good excuse for them to get together and do something

Thanksgiving until Christmas? I thought most married men did that year round? ;)

Rooster, I actually have a pretty good mate and friend most of the year. When her sister comes in to town and when she’s prepping for Thanksgiving and Christmas, I know my place and it is quietly in the basement. Come up when I’m told and say, “Yes dear”, “Your right dear” and retreat has soon as I can back to the man cave.

My experience is that any Black Friday deals can be found in the days before xmas so why waste the time.

My motto: Why do today what you can put off till tomorrow. Works the best at this time of year. BY Christmas Eve most stuff is gone, and ya can’t spend money if it ain’t there to buy… As my favorite Christmas character likes to say…Bah! Humbug!..

Black Friday is a scam. You have to be an idiot to wait on line just to get a deal. Like Vic said wait till a few days before x mas or later in the year. Its all about “look what I got” My kids would have the same smile and be just as happy opening a present that cost $5 vs $200. They will be on sale again. I love when people advertise 5% off everything. Really 5% I cant be bothered waiting on line. Good thing I work on Black Friday. People forget by the time you factor in gas, food ect… your not really saving and in some cases your spending more.

That’s the character’s first cousin…on his wife’s side…

Online Christmas shopping is still the best imho…or giving the gift of dead presidents…it says “i care enough not to embarass your by asking what size jeans you wear…”

I too am hiding in Bartworld 4.0 until it subsides…grading on the Port Lavender line, and continuing the moving of shop facilities so the major construction projects can begin…

The only “deal”, per the initial posting related to large scale, I have found is from TrainWorld’s continual e-mailed promotional blitz of deals – some over 10% off. You can get those same e-mail ads initiating receiving them on their website. I have ordered two items so far. Yes, one of them was the street car with the problems of wheel gauge – rectified by the skills Greg Elassiam.

I acquired a couple cases of dd boxcars from TW thru their better ‘Veteran day’ discount !!
This weekends advert’ % off was not as good, plus the economists are fussing with our $ again !

BTW why “black” friday ? Has me thinking of economists and traders jumping out of windows, or a weekend of funerals after a major death toll.

One of our store chains (yes there are still half doz. left) has picked up on a better lighter ‘tone’ label … “Blue” Friday sale !! Coool positive thoughts man

Hope ya all survived . . . now to unpack parcel 2 of 2 of that TW order to confirm r-t-r or repurposing. It arrived by postal before lunch today (yes, on a sunday as the christmas backlog is starting !!)

nite,

I just received an email boasting 10% off on Cyber Monday if you spend over $150 on a train product. On top of that, this particular company wants you to join their club to purchase from them! I find that darn right offensive and I am surprised to see them still in business!

Well I bought a few choice items on Friday…but on Ebay…from Japan…in N scale…so I guess that doesnt really count

We had “Black Friday” and Doug said one of the chains had “Blue Friday.” If you think about it that says “black and blue.” Is that what the consumer gets? Sounds like a consumer beaten up by the stores!

Friday was also “Buy Nothing Day”, suited my frame of mind perfectly! :stuck_out_tongue: :stuck_out_tongue: :stuck_out_tongue:
